Golf @ 25psi--BS??

One of the guys I know owns a 2000 Golf 1.8t, 4door. Anyway he is trying to tell me and other people that he can push 25psi (rlaugh) on his stock block. All he has is a filter, stage 2 chip(his statement), 3in cat back, and a mbc, and he also states the he has the k04 turbo upgrade. Is this possible??
I think its BS, but for some reson he seems to be really confident that his car is able to run this. He states that currentlly he is spiking to 21psi and holds 18. The funny thing is that he has no boost gauge, but some how is able to tell how much boost hes runnin.

Don't they run 15 16 psi stock?
Stock motor can withstand 300 hp easily.

boost is ECU controlled, right? He's probably just listing the spec's of his chip to you.

That 1.8 liter engine can make some serious power, and handles boost very well. He may not be actually doing it, but people are running boost that high on a stock motor.

But my doubts come in where, he has no fmic, and has no fuel system upgrades. You guys think the stock 1.8T injectors can push 20psi??

How much bigger is the k04 than the stock one? cuz the stock turbo is SOOOOOOO tiny. My friend showed me one that he got off a 1.8t I swear the inlet for the turbo was no bigger than a 1 1/2" in diameter.

All I know is that the K04 turbo is capable of pusing 20-25 psi. I think it might me comparable to the t2871 or something in that range. Here is a pic of the K04 turbo upgrade for the 1.8t. (awe-tuning).

stock turbo cannot handle 20+psi, they just cant keep it, it drops to 17psi...so 25psi...yeah right

I thought ECU upgrades on the GTI 1.8t were so potent because they have an electronically controlled wastegate. If that's the case, wouldn't the MBC be pointless?
