I will be there in STS2, unless I suddenly find a ride in CS.
Cindy, Grassroots Motorsports did an autocross tire test in their most recent issue, and they considered the Avon Tech R-A to be pretty close to the V710 and A3S05. That would make them quite a bit faster than the Kumho Victoracers.
The 245/45-17 V710 fits the S2000's 17x7" front wheels. Has someone tried them on the MSP and found that they rub?

SInce 225/45-17 Hoosiers rub in back, I doubt the 245s are going to work... I know Hoosiers are wide, but I just don't see the Kumho's fitting...
We're running 235/40/17 RA-1s on the MSP right now, no spacers on the rears, and 5mm spacers on the fronts. We've got some rubbing but not too bad. On the Miata, the V710s are noticeably narrower than the Hoosiers.
Is there any way you could find someone w/ a dead set of 245/45/17s to test fit?

A3S05 225/45/17: (Known rubbing)
Section width: 9.7" (on 8" rim) (9.5" on 7.5" rim)
Tread width: 8.8"
Overall Diameter: 24.5"
RA1 235/40/17 (Known working with 50 offset in front and 55 in rear with minimal rubbing. Rubs inside front fender liner hard (rubbed thru in one weekend) with 55 in front on turns)
Section width: 9.6" (on 8.5" rim)
Overall Diameter: 24.4"
Stock RE040 215/45/17
Section width: 8.4" (on 7" rim)
Tread width: 8.0"

I thought somebody mentioned that the guys from canada running the MSP at the national tour events this year (including nationals) were running a 245/45/17 (V710?) and rubbing
The V710's are almost an inch taller but look like they might be about the same width or maybe even a little smaller width so depending on where you have rubbing issues they may or may not work.
The MSP can get up to about 63 MPH in second gear (6500 redline) with the stock tires according to a gear ratio calculator I was looking at. I think about 60 seems to be the magic number for AutoX where if you can't make it that high in second try to increase your tire Diameter so you can and if you are too much above it try to knock your tire Diameter down so you are closer to that and with better acceleration (or in some cars like the 6 SPD miata and the 93 MR2 just know that you have to use 3rd). With the 245/45/17 V710's you would be able to get to 65 in second (again 6500 redline) so a little higher than most courses I have heard about (I have not been to national events so I do not know what those are like yet) It would kill your gearing a little bit but it might be worth it for the stick and the life of the tire. But I would not want to mix and match the V710's with a lower end tire like the victoracer
I am sticking with RA1's for this season I think because I have been pretty happy with how I have done on them so far and the type of wear I have gotten out of them. I bought a set cheap (well used) from a road racer to test fit and you could just barely see any tread pattern on the sides and just a little bit of groove in the center. We got about 80 runs on them before one of them corded (bad alignment on 70 of the runs) and I am now looking at just replacing the 2 worst ones and leaving the 2 better ones on the back and getting new ones for the front.
Next season I am still not sure what car I will be running but if it is the protege I will be testing the V710's to see if they fit if they have not made a better size by then.

I run the Avon Tech Rs on 17x7 wheels with a 50mm offset, 225-45-17. They rub the rear strut and also the rear fender under major compression. They only rub the front inside fender well under extreme turning.
I think a 225-45 A3SO5 Hoosier in the front and the 205-40-17 R3SO5 in the rear might be a good combo so that there isn't any rubbing/fitment issues. You would probably have to run some toe-in in the rear to keep it planted.
I love the Avon's, VERY stiff sidewall and uber sticky. And I haven't had any major issues with rolling onto the sidewall even with our horribly camber-challenged cars, I run ~36psi hot.

Good luck to everyone who is going. I've taken too much vacation time from work already this year so I won't be going. I've got a few more tweaks to work out on the Pro5 before next year. My next major homework assignment is redoing the whole spring/strut setup so that I can run without swaybars. i've got a lot of homework to do.

Anyway, thanks to all that is known as life, I'm not in a financial position now to buy any new tires, so I'm going to have to go with the Victoracer handicap. If I'm lucky, I may at least pull out a second place finish and come home with $900 between Mazda and Kumho to use towards some Hoosiers for next year! Just pray it doesn't rain, and that I can wake up that early. (hand)

I was working corner 2 both days during first heat when you were running. Thursday working the course was one of the most miserable times of my autocrossing life!! So cold and I was completely wet and frozen. I was actually hoping more people would hit cones so I could run and warm up a little.
Regardless, your driving looked pretty good but man, Kathy was tearing it up out there. And that lady in the R32 kept making up her own course on Thursday. I was actually scared every time I saw here cause I didnt know where she was gonna turn and if she was gonna hit someone! On her first run she ended up driving to our corner twice!

Thanks. I was on Victoracers I've had since May. I was holding alright in the rain. On Friday, I spun my first run, so my second run I took it easy to keep my position. The car was way too tail happy and my third run I backed off of it also. I guess I wasn't ready mentally to recover from that first spin. I think if I would have driven the best I can, I could have made it to the 58's, but Kathy was in the 56's, I'm just not at that level. She's a multi time trophy winner and that car is set up. Driving on Thursday really sucked. I felt bad for the people outside. I also felt really bad for the girl in the R32 since she DNF'd every run Thursday. That would have been an awful experience. At least she sucked it up, came back Friday and did well.

Yes they did well with the MSP. DS 6th out of 34 entrants is excellent when you consider the amount of talent that is at the Nationals.

The winning BMW was also a OUTSTANDING driver... GJ Dixon was 3rd overall at the 2003 MRIU, beaten only by Mark Daddio and Mike King...
He is also the only person who has ever codriven my MSP and beat me...

I met GJ Dixon at a NYR event. I was running RA1's on the protege and he was on V710's in that BMW. He beat me by about 2 seconds on a 45 second course.
He did mention that he had driven a MSProtege before and thought it was a nice car.
