well ive installed my ob header between today and yesterday...and all the bolts are on everything i all handy dandy and its all hooked up. except for the fact that the egr valve does not fully link up to the obx header end and well i cannot fully close the egr valve leading me to have an egr leak :(

well here are pics to show the prob....quality is not that great cause pics are from webcam ive done my best i dont have a digi cam so yeah sorry....

this is really common actually
DO NOT attempt to bend the egr piping, bad things can happen...

Just get someone with some muscle to pull on the egr pipe and try and turn the nut onto the header as they pull. It took me about 20 tries or so, but it finally threaded.
Some other people have said they had ok luck if they loosened up the header and got the egr started first.

I choose the latter. It's goes on real easy when the header is loose.

When I installed the OBX header I actually had the same problem and I took it to a garage where they fixed it with no problems.

Losses the nuts on the header and attach the bung first. That should take care of it...

i initially tried doing it but the egr valve wouldnt connect...so we tried putting the header on first and well that failed so now i have to wait till tomorrow for a buddy to help me and i am going to take the header off again and trying it again... i was able to loosen the egr valve a bit by disconnecting a clamp that was holding it to the block so hopefully that will give me some more leway. ill let everyone know tomorrow night what goes down!

i had this same problem. i purchased it from protegegarage.com so i knew it would fit. but the damn egr valve wouldn't line up. so me and my dad messed around for a bit with it. this is how we got it on:

line it up with the bolts that go on to your exhaust. when those are lined up or on, but not bolted, turn the headers to where the egr valve and whole line up. push the washer as hard as you can to the threads without stripping it and twist with a pair of vice grips, or something similar. try not to tighten all the way incase of tearing threads or it popping off again. but most important is do not, DO NOT, mess up the threads.

it should be easier with 2 people. one under the car helping to push/angle and the other messing with the valve.

those are my 2 cents.

I had the same problem. It seems that the EGR threaded piece was welded on at too much of an angle. I bent it slightly to get it on. It is running fine.

well i know what i have to do itl just have to wait until tomrorow....cause of buddy....

but i am going to do exactly that basically i know i need to tilt it and put the egr valve a bit. i disconnected a bracket holding the egr valve onto block for more play and i will reconnect it....this is a 3 day header install which blows and its basically because of time and me and/or my friend being busy which just sucks cause the car is down...but i started it to see how much egr leak i had and saw the leak and quickly turned it off.....so yeah.....but it sounds nasty nice lol so i am excited! well that is all for now....

what will be interesting is when i get my ********** intake manifold....so yeah....lol

ha, come to think of it i never really understood what the EGR valve does or stands for. so anyone, anyone?

does it not recirculate gas which still has o2 in it? its an emissions thing basically or so i am told. i could be way way off...

Yep, Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Reuse unspent fuel and heat up the intake for detonation. . . um, I mean to increase the efficiency of the combustion.

good job there, that's exactly what i was gonna say you should do. now just loosen the bolts on the header flange a bit, no need to take them out or anything. get your EGR nut on there (use some anti-seize too so when you have to take it off again, it's easier to crack the nut loose), then tighten down the header. if i didn't loosen that clamp on the block first, i would have had a hard time. i think you could do it yourself, i had no trouble with it. give it a try, then if not, wait for your buddy. there should really be no need to pull on/bend the EGR tube. good luck. peace!

I pried the tube forward and got the nut on. Big PITA. Would have been a half hour install if it wasn't for that damn EGR...

this ******* egr valve is almost as gay as the damn end links. perhaps gayer. i'll decide once i get the MOTHER ****** ON!!!!!!!!

sorry.

lol i hear you...you wanna know whats awesome as well? having the egr valve 1/2 on and starting the car....seeing egr leak and then smoke comming out of egr....after car is off mad scary s***....do tomorrow header comes off! and redoing process!

Well buddy, it can be done :D After much cussing and whatnot, I managed to get it on. The best tip was to have two people do it. I had my mom thread the nut while I pushed on the valve. The spring bolts on the exhaust were somewhat annoying, but I got them too. Did you guys have a slight gap between the exhaust and header? It is really small, and I imagine the gasket fills that.

It definitely sounds different. I only went for one quick spin so far, but I liked what I heard. lol I still doubt anyone will hear my car at the autocrosses... not that that is a bad thing. Oh and not to scare any potential buyers, it is because I have stock exhaust.

As far as performance, it felt pretty good! It does feel stronger in the upper RPMs. I had my buddy and his girl in the car... even he said he noticed a difference. I'll go take a spin now without the extra weight and see what it is like :D

Oh and end links are definitely worse.

just wait till its on there for a while and you got to take it off for some reason. I did the method of egr valve first then header bolts, seven months later i go to take it off for jet coating and now i cant get it off. seems like when i tightened the header down it tweeked the egr valve nut enough to cross thread it. I can only turn the nut a qaurter turn in either direction. Header is still on un-jetcoated....

haha please don't scare me like that. I put anti-sieze on it, but if it did cross-thread then I'm boned. Also I had the header tightened down. It felt pretty smooth going on though. I have an extra intake manifold here that I need to remove VTCS and polish... but I'm fearing that thanks to mr. egr valve.
