I was trying to remove the nut/bolt with the spring from the exhaust manifold. I heard a loud snap. and the whole bolt came out. was the nut (yellow arrow) only supposed to come off? or the whole thing as shown in the picture?

just added a few more pics!

Just got finished with my install a couple of hours ago (have fun with the egr! see my post in the header GB thread), and if I remember correctly, everything is supposed to come out.

By the way, when you've got the header in, DO NOT tighten the bolts on the block; just let it sit on them so that you can move it around to properly screw in the EGR. We had to try a few different angles to get it to screw on properly. Once that's on, then properly attach it to the block and the midpipe.

She's right......don't cross thread it like I did!

BTW, it's not supposed to come out like that...only the nut, washer and spring should come off. It might be broken.

how come there are threads on the other side?

because you popped the whole bolt out of the flange I think. I thought it would be impossible to do but apperently it isn't.

When you indicate the exhaust, you mean where the downpipe connects to the midpipe, right 323?

What you're saying Phil is that you think the bolt, along with the spring, should remain in the flange?

Because I wasn't the one taking everything apart I didn't pay that close attention, but I'm pretty sure the whole thing came out when we did the install today... I could be wrong though.

The bolt should remain attached to the flange and the nut, washer and spring should come off.

Well if its what i think it is...Its a Stud and yes it CAN come out...but you are gonna have to re-install it.The nut was obviously rusted onto the stud and the threads in the mani were a tightened less than the nut so it gave there. As long as that is not supposed to be a bolt with a head...does it look broken..not from your pics, then its a stud and you need to get the nut off and re-istall the stud.A Torch is your friend when removing rusty bolts..Heat really does the trick ,especially if you soak it with a rust buster first.

Ding Ding Ding

Yes, it is a stud. Unless the threads are damaged (which they don't appear to be), just reinstall it as you would any other bolt.

So, is the header on and everything running smooth?? How do you like it?
