Did you get them at a local shop? If so, they gave you a wheel w/too low of an offset, and too tall of a side wall. I'd go back there and make 'em switch them out for a combo that fits- especially if they recommended that combo. You need something like a +42 offset or higher, and a 205/50-16 tire. Don't roll your fenders unless it's a last resort.

I've been reconsidering moving to 17 inch rims. I'm leaning toward 16x7 like you have. But 205/55r16 is too tall. With the x7 rims, consider going 215/45. Almost an inch wider than stock with the exact same diameter, so no error in the speedo.

Actually 205/40/17's have the same diameter as the stock 195/50/16's, so with 215/45's there will be a slight error in the speedo, but no big deal.

I'd try to get a wheels with a higher offset. I know for a fact that 205/55/16's will fit on the stock P5 wheels because my friend had to put one of those on his car a few weeks ago when he had a blowout. And his car is lowered with s-techs. Your offset is just too far out. Probably a +42 or +45 would make it ok.
