Project: Zero6E

Bike: 2001 Kawasaki ZX6E
Problem: Motor is shot (not sure which part I assume the rods)
+ Its kind of dirty, with everything apart I can put s*** in the dishwasher :)
Solution: Tear the s*** out of it and hope for the best

History: Purchased the bike for way too much and then came into a nightmare
Forks need to be resealed
Front Tire needs replacing
Brakes need replacing
First Motor poped (huge hole in block)
Second Motor is about to pop (trying to save it) OR modify frame for a bigger badder motor ...(depends on funds & what not)

If anyone has rebuilt a motor please give me some tips/hints or if you live in Ga and wanna stop by one day and just tell me what to do I'll supply the beer :)

Pictures Attached
Have a ton more if anyone wants particular shots for some odd reason

Go find a repair manual for it, and see if you can rebuild the bike yourself. Thats what I plan to do with my old Yahama Radian 600. It has been sitting in my garage for 5 years now, without running. Im sure the engine will be a mess, I was driving it without oil, ragging the hell out of it, before I put it up. I decided it wasnt safe to ride anymore, since I wasnt taking proper care of it.

Anyway, I bought a repair manual for it (not shop manual, more like Chilton), and plan on rebuilding it from the bottom up. Once I get over my car addiction, that is. :)

Good luck,

Let me know what size front tire you need. I have a few race take-off DOT Michelin Pilot Race (soft compound) tires sitting around. I've built a few bikes, but never messed with Kawasaki. Let me know if you run into anything wierd.

My biggest scare is I don't know what good parts are susposed to look like
I know I'll be able to see if anything looks out of the ordinary but worried I'll miss something minor and on a bike going 130mph ..something minor turns big REAL quick :(
xelderx , what bikes do you have?

I was kidding about the dishwasher my bad tho

This is the 2nd motor I've bought and I'm tired of buying s*** so I planned on rebuilding it and hopefully if I have the money boring it out (there is a 636cc bore conversion for like 500 dollars) but I am not sure at this moment because I am poor as hell.

only motor I could find that MAY fit was the Z11 but I have to modify the frame.

there are some other motors I have people researching

Well...tore the motor apart and found the problem

Broken piston skirts aren't uncommon in the inline 4 motors. Especially the 600cc bikes since they rev to the moon. To answer your earlier question about the bikes I've owned...I started with a Honda Hawk GT. Great little bike...handled great, just underpowered, but the single sided swingarm was cool. I swapped the front end on it with a CBR F3 front end so I could have dual front rotors and a 120 series tire. I made a tough decision and traded it in on a 1993 Ducati 900 SSSP. That was a lot of fun and pure sex on wheels, but I was starting to ride pretty hard and the Ducati was just too expensive to fix if I crashed. I've got a 1997 KTM Duke right now that I've had for several years. I've been to Deal's Gap on both the Ducati and the KTM. I've done a few trackdays at VIR on the KTM as well. I've crashed it a few times and it's still good to go so it was a good purchase for me. I'm probably going to sell it soon, though. I've been dumping a lot of money into the car lately and I haven't rode the bike since last fall.

Sell to me REALLY cheap
I want to be back on two wheels so bad

I'm still checking into the 650 motor but since I have almost all the parts to fix this motor I am going to go ahead and do that. Yea, I was actually happy this was the problem I was afraid it'd be more dmg than this. I am going to dip the frame, motor, pistons, etc into an acid tank to clean the crap out of them just have to be extremely careful because with it.

I've checked with www.zx6e.com and have an ongoing tutorial there for this and people are helping. Only thing I really don't know how to do right now are rebuild the forks and rejet/clean the carbs. I figure I can find tutorials on both fairly easy

Rebuilding the forks was something I never messed with. I had my Duke forks revalved to make them stiffer for racing by a local friend who specialized in suspension rebuilds. You may want to ask around and see if people are revalving their forks for better handling. I'm not familiar with the Kawasaki so I don't know how good the forks were stock. CLeaning out the carbs isn't that hard..just time consuming and there are lots of little parts and passageways that you have to clean. If you don't get it perfectly clean and reassembled right you will definitely have running issues. Carbs are fickle that way.

You are welcome to buy my KTM...first $3000 takes it and it comes with a few extra sets of race tires.

arg, I'm looking for the 300 dollar range.

On a side not Yamaha and all them have some GREAT deals on bikes right now
R6's (First 24months @$39) then after that 4.9 financing or something like that
Suziki has the GSXR600 at 100 for first 12months
Honda has the same roughly I think.

I thought about getting a GSXR600 and rebuilding the E so I'd have two bikes
