Good Exhaust shop

Anyone know where I could possibly get a custom exhaust made? I'm wondering if I do it locally I could pay less than the current offerings. Looking for a turboback for my MSP, 3" SS, mandrel bent, with cat. Are there any local shops that could do this, and if so, how much do you think they might charge?

I don't know Peeps, I went to price a cat back for my LX and I went to Mineki (?) and some other shop and they were really close in price. I would be cheaper for the shop to make it but they don't have the mandrel machine so it wouldn't look as good! But I have heard that there is a shop in taylor that is good! I'll try and get the name for you.

I thought lots of places get pre-bent pipes and just cut and weld those together, so they don't need to have their own mandrel bending machine. Couldn't a decent shop do this for me?

I've also been toying with the idea of buying a welding setup, learning to weld, and making my own exhaust LOL. I wonder if that would be cheaper. I'm also looking to get an FMIC and hardpipes sometime in the future, so that would be cheaper in the long run too, assuming I would be capable of doing it... I always wanted to learn to weld.

I don't care about mandrel for looks, but for flow, and the ss is just cause I don't want corossion.

muffin mufflers on burnet road.

the guys there are real nice and honest, and they do really good work.

if you do go, tell em the yellow one sent ya.

and about corrosion ... i talked to him about that, and he said that the standard pipes will last at least 10 years (being here in austin), and that ss was probably overkill.

So did they do a custom job for your MSP? Did they/could they/would they replace the s and j-pipes as well?

I think I know that place, if it's the place I'm thinking of my friend had some repair work done on his Suzuki samurai there, and they were very cheap.

i went to LEONARDS off 183, after discount tire & b4 target
they were ok priced and its still good as new (5yrs ago on my honda)
just my muffler is RASPY but its not their fault
but no mandrels, it is crappy bends but works....

let us know how MUFFINs turns out

i inquired about an s-pipe back or turboback system, but he said negative for now. with texas changing the emmissions and whatnot, he's pretty much a straight arrow in terms of not messing with the cats before the mileage/time limit. i know that he could do it for sure, but you'd just have to sweet talk him. he was more than happy to help me put in my apex dp though.

real nice, honest guys. even if you only do catback, you'll be pleased. i am.

I had the muffin dudes weld an O2 bung onto my ghl downpipe, and the weld looks like total ass. I don't think I wanna go back there just from the fact that it looks like a 2 year old welded it. I still want to get a custom catback done. I'm gonna try calling Leonards garage soon. I wonder if any of these places will piece together some pre bent mandrel pipes for my catback.

you want the weld to look pretty?

agreed.

i mean, my welds aren't works of art, but they work perfectly fine. sorry about the suggestion if you were goin for something a bit more stylish.

i know that striker (who does the exhaust thread) had a shop out in college station do his ss exahust and he's real happy with it. not too long of a drive. i looked in his sig, and i think it's www.maycomufflershop.com .

warrier, you weld?

btw
the site is broken or just missing some photos....?

negative on the personal welding. i had a catback done at muffin also, so "my welds" are the welds on the car at the moment.

the site isn't spectacular. i never really looked much into it, but it seems striker is pretty satisfied with his finished product.

No I don't really care how it looks, but that's one way of telling if the weld is of high quality. I'll admit I don't know much at all about welding, but I can tell a very clean weld from one that's not so clean. Maybe it's just the contrast of the welds that were already on the pipe. And yeah, the weld quality doesn't matter much for a simple bung, but to have the same guys piece together a catback for me, I would be wary that it would fall apart. Maybe I'm just unreasonably hard to please.

Here is a pic of the bung
