DYI Grounding Meet

Wham Bam thank you Ma'am

Anybody want to do a DIY grounding kit meet/GB? I am going to be ordering stuff to do it on my car, so if you want to I have it all picked out and it is the least expensive stuff, but very quality. Can do lots of colors and in 8 or 4 gauge, new terminals and connectors. Let me know who is interested and I'll arrange everything and order it all. All pros invited and I believe in doing things very clean so I spent some time looking at this. If you want I can pre-do all the wires before the meet, maybe even for free. lol. I read about people doing install meets all the time. I havent been around long, but I enjoy getting together with you guys. Any interests? Lets get it rolling so I can order the stuff.

And by the way, I am getting this stuff for myself even if nobody wants too, but I am going to try to arrange a discount and we will save on shipping if we ship it to one place.

hmmmm, I'll think about. I've been toying with getting one of 1sty's kits for a while. Got any idea of the total cost, per car?

i was talking to kcbhiw about grounding kits, and he says all you need is good wires grounding the engine and battery. nothing else is really needed.

what are the true benefits? hp or smoothness?

I think there will always be this argument. I like the looks, because I'm a ricer, but I look at it like this, it makes the electrical system on the motor more "efficient", and I would guess at the least would save some wear on the alternator. Now Ying can jump in and say how I'm full of s***.

A 'fat' wire is not needed to the motor. Just one that is sufficient. Look at the voltage/current requirements that are drawn. A 4 gauge wire is overkill. The critical areas of a grounding system such as that in a car are the points to where the wires connect. These points tend to bolt to places that easily corrode (water seep and such), paint interferes with the connection, and so on. The two most critical grounding wires are those from the battery to the chassis and fromt he chassis to the engine.

A 'good' ground return to the engine is reguired to provide a sufficient spark, nothing more. These grounding kits that go the transmission, shocks, tires, etc are a waste of money.;

I'm kinda playing devil's advocate here, because I honestly, haven't looked to see where the wires run from, but I wonder, since modern cars use so many sensors, and they are voltage sensitive, and also considering so many parts of our motor are aluminum and separated by gaskets/sealants, that it would help the computer read the sensors at the height of accuracy rather than just within tolerance, to have multiple points, especially at sensors to be directly grounded.

^^That's a helluva sentence right there, boys. ^^^^

i just wrote the coompany I am interested in their product, gonna wait for their response on a deal. What we are looking at is: 15ft of wire, 10-15 terminals and battery terminals. Cheapest kit is $29 thats for 8awg wire 15 terminals and one battery terminal. Very good price for the quality of the product. The most expensive would be $59 thats for 4awg wire 15 terminals and two matching battery terminals.

Yes there is big debate about this, "I" believe it will help smooth it out, no hp gain, and yes I know the excessive wiring isn't needed, battery to chasis, chasis to motor are important.

my main goal here was to put togehter a group install, hanging out with you guys and I want to do a grounding kit for my car.

Go run-on sentance!! ;)

The majority of the sensors already have a wire ground return. Items that are connected through manifolds (be it, intake, exhaust, water, etc) still have a very good connection to the engine via the bolts that hold them in place (especially when considering the torque that is holding such items in place).

Shoot. Grounding kit or not. It sounds like an excellent excuse to hold a meet :D .

Here is the product: (well the first half)

Why do you think I'd say you are full of it? I got nothing against grounding wires. After all it is your car and should not care what anyone else thinks of it. As long as you like it.

heres more

A meet to install stuff cool. Who wants to help me with my brakes and rotors. Cuz they are totally ******.
I took my brakes apart yesterday, everything from the rotors to the brake brackets to pads its all ****** up on my car. Looks like i'm going to go with cross drill and slotted + cryo treat them.

Hey kevin what class would that put me in auto-x?

i want to do brakes too, just cant afford that now, but i will help you work on yours, my brakes, no problems yet.

i can help on the brakes too ying. What is f-ed on the brake brackets? it looked to me like you just picked up a piece of debris on the way out to 'bama and it messed up your rotor some. Also if you can go without your car for a day during the week i can take your rotors and turn them down for free then all u need to do is replace the pads.

Btw as for the grounding kits i am a firm believer they make HP...very little HP but every little bit counts. However i was under the impresion that speaker wire is good but many of the higher end kits are made of high grade wire that is better than speaker wire. Either way though for $30 and an excuse to hang out and work on cars (kinda what i do everyday anyway) i am in

I am going to get the black/silver wire, black terminals, and one battery terminal, still thinking about 8awg vs 4awg, but I can order both and you guys dont have to do any work, I'll set up the deal, order it, receive the shipment and most likely do all the cutting and preping of the wires (unless you want to), then I'll bring everything to the meet (date to be determined when we decide to do this). Only thing I would need is to collect the money from everybody when I am ordering, and I;ll still do most of that work too, i;ll come meet you to get the money ( maybe half way, depends where you live/ work)or we can work something out for payment. Scott

PDF 04-11 page 17 part 7 rubs up on the brakes. I don't know if I can have the rotors turned again.. They've been turned once already.
