Newbie Amp Questions

What I actually did was cut a few strands to make the 8g wires fit in the 10g terminals they provided, is that a bad thing to do?
Nope but it might be easier to widen or pry open the crimp end to fit the bigger wire in it and then crimp it back down - like this silly little diagram: from () to (_). Get it?

My advice on the amp install is just to remove whatever seat you are going to put it under. It makes it a lot easier to remove the center console. You may have already done this though?

I don't think it really matter which ground location you use as long as the thing is down to bare metal. I even scuff up the terminal a bit so that it sticks really well.(boom01)

FOr the left side only playing, put the RCA into the rear channels. Alpine's when bridging to funky things and if one little switch is in the wrong place you get a situation like your describing.

you cna test your speaker connections by taking them and touching the +to + and- to- quickly of a 9v battery, you shoudl hear the corresponding speaker "pop" I think a AA or whatever you have'll work as well, just be careful not to leave them like this very long, jsut a quick "pop" is all you need to make sure.
Can you explain that again? I'm trying to do that right now but not getting it to work. Am I suppose to have my aftermarket headunit on? or that doesnt matter?

Thanks all for the replies, I won't be able to get the garage til Thursday, so thats when I'm gonna go full swing at it again.

no no don't touch wires going to the HU, do it only to wires going to speakers. no hu on. this is just a cheap mechanical way to see if a wire is going to a proper speaker.

Well I got to test the amp again yesterday. Unfortunately, I found out that the channel 1 & 3 speaker outputs don't work at all. My wiring was all correct in the first place. My ground was better, I didn't sandpaper/scrape of the paint the first time, so that solved the problem of the speakers sounding like it had no power. I also turned on the engine, no noise.

I contacted the seller, he told me that it was working perfectly fine when Tweeter uninstalled it for him. I told him I tested it in everyway I could and I have checked the settings etc. I asked if I can return it to him, hopefully he will take it back. I personally think something probably happened during the shipment, he didn't pack it well on the sides where the speaker outputs and rca's are. There were no padding there and it was right up against the box.

Is there anything I can do to fix the amp? What would happen if the fuse was burnt? Should I open up the amp and see whats going on in there?

I liked how my speakers sounded when I put channels 2&4 up to the front. It was definately playing clearer and at louder levels. I used to turn the volume knob at 20. Now I could only go up to like 8, and then when i put on the crossovers, I could go up to 10.

So I guess I'm in the market again for a new amp. I might just get a 4 channel amp this time and just power up the fronts and the sub, and run the rears off the headunit. However, would that screw up with the fade and balance settings? What if I were to get an Alpine deck, would that mess up features such as time correction?

There is a repair shop owner that is a memeber here that may be able to help you out for a resonable price. I'll look up his name.

What is the position of every dip switch on the amplifier?

Yea I bet the amp was perfectly FINE when the dude got it from Tweeter. Too bad he busted it and unloaded it on ebay to you of all people...sometimes you get burnt.(flame) I would threaten him with negative feedback if he won't let you return it. (rant)

If you can't get him to take it back you could try opening it up. I bought a used Eclipse and the ground terminal was smashed in when i got it. So I said screw it and opened it up. I found out that the ground wasn't completely touching the board so I very carefully soldered it back down and now it works like a charm.

So it might be worth it to look inside to see if you can fix it your self. I may have taken a gamble and won with mine b/c I don't know s*** about electroics, circut boards, wiring etc. You'll have to weigh the costs of repair to how much you bought the amp for, I guess. It's up to you man.(rockon)

Okay thanks. What do you mean by dip switches?

The sides of older alpine amps have dip switches that determin there configuration.

The only switches I see are the gains, HP filters, bass boost, and the LP filter for the sub.
