My Yakima setup

ALright, so a couple members have been asking me about my rack setup. THis is exactly how it's currently sitting, IT gets switched around a good bit, but at the moment, this is what's been working for me best this summer.

Qtower set
Q102 clips
48"Xbars
2 Viper fork-mount racks (these allow for disc brake calipers to clear)
1 Cutthroat fork-mount (I've actually usually got a Copperhead but I must've lent it to a friend or something.)
2 wheelforks
Small fairing. (38" I believe?) It's a bit small I think yakima now reccommends the larger 44" one. Wish I had it...

THere's room for 4 bikes if you stagger them (front/back) but this way for one looks much cleaner, and mostly, just functions decently. There is a bit of handlebar contact issues, but fortunately the guys I ride with vary in height enough (from 5'3 to 6'8") that we can generally make 'em work without issue.

In winter, I've got a Big Powderhound that will fit 4 boards or 2board/2pr ski's etcetc... It generally goes on one of the sides which leaves room for 2 bikes on the other side if you mount one rack outside of the tower.

Another thing I should mention, and I'm likely going to be doing this soon is to actually get longer crossbars and cut them down a bit, so I'll have, say a 52" bar. Basically, if I had an extra 1-2" of bar length on either side of my towers, I'd be able to more easily mount a forkmount bikerack outboard of the tower which would gain me a good bit of space. I actually used to carry 5 bikes on my Civic when I was going to races and some of us raced DH and XC. I used the same setup with an upright rack in the middle, and 2 backwards-facing racks on the very outside.

Thanks, yo.
Not a problem man, hope it helps. LMK if you've got any specific questions.

I wouldn't fully throwout the idea of upright mounts, but I'd avoid the anklebiter as it has some compatibility issues, and make sure if you get a lockjaw that it'll work with whatever bike you want to carry. (usually they only work with standard tube-framed bikes) The Cobra works alright, but I had the sway issues, and also I couldn't get mine to stay snug. My bike wouldn't fly off the roof, but it would roll back and fourth in the mount about 3" or so.. It was one of the first released so I assume yakima's remedied the issue bynow.

If my shop were still in business, I'd totally work you guys thehookup. 8(

i want one for the sedan to hold 2 snowboards!
ummmm...

mine can hold 6 boards or a combo ski's and boards, the board holders on this rack, make a lot of noise, so i just use the ski/board rack now. Seems more aerodynamic, and s*** doesn't flap around as much.

uhhh okay? whats the "ummmmm......" for?

Im glad yours can hold 6 boards. I dont care for holding that many boards...

I've run the 6-board setup before. basically just put a Big powderhound on one side, and a normal one on the other. It's nice for when you've got alot of pole-holders going with you because you can put all their poles over on one side... Or even better, put all the ski's over in their own seperated section so that your snowboards don't have to touch them... Eitherway, I found it to be mostly unnecessary. Poles can be strappeddown to the crossbars fairly easily, or just slapped in the bikerack on the side.

oh, also, For the record, my towers and Xbars are 8yrs old.
