e-brake question

This is probably an all Protege question but how effective is your e-brake? If I was rolling at idle, my Carolla would stop short if I pulled on the e-brake. If I pull on the e-brake on my P5, it barely seems to slow down. It seems to barely hold my car in place if I pull up hard on the e-brake.

my emergency brake is pretty effective. ive left it on by accident and couldnt understand why my car wasnt accelerating. when i took my foot off the gas, it slowed down drastically. i dont know what to tell you.

this being the case...you need to adjust it....for if your Ebrake is adjusted properly.......you should be able to lock up the rear brakes with the handle.....

If the P5's e-brake is the same as the MP3 then it is really easy to tighten. I did it myself. Just take of the plastic piece over the handle and tighten the bolt you can see in there

its the same.

I figured so. I guess some people would want the dealer to fix everything that goes wrong under warrenty. I would do that but I dont trust the dealer here. After they tried to charge me 900 something dollars to change all the lifters and I found out it was just a spark plug loose I just dont want to go back there

Mine was "loose" as well. very quick fix, if you like. However, if you actually intend to use it as an "emergency" brake, you dont want to tighten it too much to be able to keep control during braking. And, although your handle may be down, if you tighten too much the pads will be in constant contact. Keep in mind the "BRAKE" light is dependent upon the lever being pulled up, not upon the brakes being applied. So the handle could be down and the brake on, if you go too far.

On a side note, with all this snow that Indiana has gotten over the past 3 weeks, I have done more handbrake turns than I ever thought possible. God, it's like an anti-depressant for me. Anyone else?

yeah I was just getting ready to say that about over-tightning it. But you beat me to it. Gotta be careful about that.

My service department has been good to me. If they say they have to charge for it, I'll probably do it myself.

Parking Brake Adjustment...

(sorry for the small font size... I tried to make it larger, but the letters start to get unreadable.)
