Very simple air filter mod that I did tonight while waiting for my CAI to get done. I just put a K&N filter directly onto the MAF sensor, and drilled a hole in the back for the IAT sensor. Sounds hungry now, can't wait to try it out tomorrow. I think that the turbulence from the intercooler fan may be a problem though. But the air there stays suprisingly cool.

BTW I did notice that the "tamper proof" seals are present on the BOV, however you car remove the entire BOV hose from the piping and replace the entire thing. I wonder what else I will discover as I prod along.

The exhaust is horrible in this thing. I put it on the rack and the radius coming out of the turbo is almost 90 degrees immediately. Then 6" into cat #1, O2 sensor, cat #2 then about 18" into a 24" resonator then into the Racing Beat piece. Something will have to be done here.

I taked to Greddy, HKS, Blitz, and Apex'ei today, and none believe that there is a market for turbo timer harnesses for the MSP. I am going with the Blitz Dual Turbo Timer with the built in boost gauge, it measures peak boost. I will have this piece in this week.

Did you do a baseline dyno run to establish stock hp and torque? If so, where do you go in the Portland area for dyno runs?

Or do you use a G Force accelerometer to test power gains?

I have a Gtech somewhere I will pull out and use after I find out how much it weighs. But I am going to get it on the dyno soon. There are two chassis dynos here in Portland, just gotta figure out a date. I just was anxious to get the filter on tonight, hence the lack of all the piping and stuff for the "cold" part of the CAI.

Weighed mine on the truck scales on Hwy 212. Came in at 2800 even with about 3/4 tank of fuel. Scale measures in 25 lb increments. Later that day, measured again with 1/4 tank of fuel and it weighed 2750. Gas is 6 lbs/gal and full tank is 14.5 gals. So 7 gals x 6 lbs/gal = 42 lbs, which is about right.

Well, I drove it all day, and yes it did seem to be slightly more responsive. You can definately hear the turbo better, which I like. My butt dyno says it was worth the $40. Does it spool up faster? I don't think that intake mods will change that, but there may be some exhaust mods coming soon which will definately change it.

I am still disappointed with this lag/dead spot on the throttle @4000 rpm. I don't know what it is. I'll find out Friday when I get my boost gauge in.

Sorry, yes it is 3" if you leave the rubber donut gasket on, you'll see what I mean if you take it apart.

ps, gonna go play with the Gtech now, thanks Morris for the weights

1st mod

I installed a APEXi tt a couple day ago and it went ok. Every thing works fine, i'm just not to sure how to work the O2 sensor readings. If you need any info on the wiring harness for the ignition or ECU, give me a PM or email(ehwal@hotmail.com).

Good luck w/ the rest of your car, you look as anxious as me to mod it up to your car (thumb)
