I'm PRETTY sure the VICS is located in the lower manifold section, but the VTCS butterflies are in the upper manifold, right? At least that's what I got the impression of. Thanks, guys. =)

VICS is between the upper and the lower.

Here's a picture of the upper intake manifold.
VTCS butterflies are at the top (can't see them in this picture).
VICS butterflies are seen in the picture (the top row of four ports and butterflies).

I should have clarified; I did, indeed, mean the butterflies for each system, respectively. Any enlightenment on how to get the manifold off, anyone? I think I'm going to be pulling mine off sometime soon to send it off and get it reworked.

Josh is right...although VICS refers to the "control system" of the variable intake...which is the butterflies and actuators etc....so technically the VICS is the butterflies and other stuff associated with the control system....
getting the manifold is tricky...it is more tedious than anything, its not like there is any single part that is very difficult...but you will need at least a crap manual from Autozone to find all the little clips and junk for the hoses, lines, and other stuff stuck onto the manifold...

Cool... I'll grab a junkyard FS intake manifold and port that, then drop it on, then. From the looks of it, the manifold is only held on by five bolts, one dead center and low, the other four at the ends. But that's about all I can get from the FSM. At any rate, the VTCS butterflies will be removed, due to the fact that my P5 doesn't have any idea what VTCS is anymore, with the new ECU.
. VTCS already removed, some porting done, very little. The latest I was asking is $150 shipped make me an offer. Pics if interested, already packed, ready to ship.flat_black

The reason for me not to have VTCS is that the new ECU I have in my car doesn't utilize VTCS, anyway, and it's just hanging out, doing nothing as it stands. =) MP3's don't have VTCS, and that's what I got my ECU from.

If anyone is thinking of removing VICS..DON'T DO IT. I don't know about VTCS, but the VICS manifold is awesome. Check out my dyno with my previous best dyno run, compared to my latest one, with an intake cam. As you can see, the manifold is responsable for quite a bit of low-end power.....

Oh, hell no... I would never remove VICS... The valve got stuck shut once, a long time ago, and the car was slow as hell. =P VTCS isn't doing anything for me right now, because the MP3 ECU doesn't actuate it at all. VTCS is just for lower startup emissions.
Haha, yeah, it's got that damn butterfly. It's not too big of a deal though, they just screw on, I could probably chuck it up in a vise and straighten it, or the easier thing would be to just swap one out before you install it. Like I said make me an offer, and I WOULD have told you about it bafore I took your money. Also check you pms tomorrow, I have another offer you might be interested in, but I don't want to go public yet.
There is always the 626 FS-de IM.... which is port matched to the head and doesnt have VTCS.... i think that is what Wrench has but his price is great... i doubt you could find a junker for that price. However I dont know if it will throw a CEL or not... I think its vacuum actuated so probably not.

As far as The VTCS...Its a Variable "tumble" control system...and is only to put the ES/P5's into the U-LEV compliance level...it only operates at start-up (when emissions are horrid), and is responsible for that "cold start rattle" a lot of people complain about...
As stated before, the MP3 did not have this system...it is safe to remove it, although emissions will suffer...and anyone with an ES/P5 that swapped to an MP3 ECU, does not have an ECU that is controlling it...

Awesome, wrench. =) I'll be keeping an eye on my PM today from work. I think I'm gonna take you up on the offer for the intake manifold, too. I'll check my fundage a little later today, and let you know.

hey do yowl think i should zip-tie the vics open for drag racing? i'm thinking yes because that dip is a real disadvantage when it opens at 5500rpm (for me)
