UPDATE:
My car was hit at around 3:30AM...
So I called the cops and had them come over and file a report, etc.
Thankfully, there was a witness to the whole thing, who told me that it was a green Ford Ranger, etc etc...no big surprise, since that's the truck that normally parks on that side of me.
Before I went to bed, I set up a video cam in my car, and put the nightvision on to see if the guilty party came back for a look.
I woke up this afternoon and went outside to check out the car and take some pics. I also noticed the truck next to me has a bent front bumper with a little bit of yellow paint on it. The WORST part is that I'm friendly with the owner of the truck. I mean, WTF, he couldn't come to me and say "Dude, sorry I messed up your car. I'll pay for the repair"???!!!
So anyway, I called the cops AGAIN, and told them about the truck. They came over, checked it out, and brought the owner of the truck over to my apt. He told the cop that he let his friend "Kevin" drive it, yet he didn't have any of Kevin's info, such as his phone #, address, or anything. I don't know about you, but if I was to EVER lend my vehicle out to someone, It'd be to someone I KNEW something about. Anyway, he gave the officer enough vague info for them to find out who it was. The owner of the truck asked if we could settle it between us (i.e. no insurance), and I said "Yes" on the conditon that the work was done perfectly, and that I would have a decent rental car when my car was in the shop, and that it was taken care of ASAP.
So then the cop left to go to this guy Kevin's place. He said he knew EXACTLY where it was because Kevin's car was parked and was hit by a truck a few months back. Oh, the irony. After being through that, you'd think he wouldn't have done what he did. Anyway, the truck owner and I were still there talking. Then I sat down and told him this...
"Listen, I know for a FACT that the guy was drinking and driving. He has two choices here. Either 1-He gets help, takes care of everything, and signs a written document where he admits that he was drinking and driving for my personal records. Or 2-I turn the tape into the cops (you know, the video tape that was in the camera that I set up after the accident? Yeah, well later he came home. )"
I told him to relay the message, and give him my # to get in touch with me.
I called my insurance company to notify them of the whole thing, but not to put in a claim. But I have the option to do so later, just in case things don't work out. Also, I have 30 days to tell the cop anything I want, so he could write tickets, etc.
This is just ONE of the many ways that Jesus has been assraping me this month. Can't wait until it's all over.
