Yea it will throw a code if you boot is torn. Mine is doing the same thing. If you clean the boot with some alcohol you can wrap some electrical tape around it for a temp fix. That is what I did to my car and it lasted me about a year. I found a boot on amazon for about $30, plus shipping.
