2021 CX-5 Carplay stopped working

I've had my 2021 CX-5 GT for about 4 weeks and CP usually works ok with my iPhone 7 and beta Waze. But about 2 weeks ago, after a stop, when I started the car and connected the phone, CP would not come up. There was some error message on the car screen, but it was gone too fast for me to read it all. I tried rebooting phone, disconnect/reconnect, remove car from BT in phone, etc, but CP would not connect. There is a Restore all Factory Settings menu under System settings that fixed it, but also clears all radio favorites, seat settings, etc. I think the same thing happened again a few days ago, but I didn't have time to try different things, so I just did the factory reset. Now I am trying to figure out what I can look at if it happens again.
 
So my 2021 CX-9 often "forgets" the CarPlay setting. It gets set to "never connect" or something like that. I just have to re-set it to "always connect" (or something like it!).

I would actually check the connectivity settings just in case.
