Shark Fin Antenna

:
2016 Mazda CX-9
I just got home and noticed the shark fin antenna is lifting at the rear. Is this something I can fix myself, or should I take it to the dealer?

If the antenna still works properly, I would use some adhesive and fix it myself. Like Click Bond adhesive. Something strong.

Everything works as expected. I wouldn’t have even known there was an issue hadn’t I went to clean the roof and saw the antenna lifting.

But I’ll try this and see how it goes.

Uncertain if the CX-5's antenna (from the 2013-2016) vintage is similar to your CX-9's, but in the workshop manual for the CX-5 the basic steps for removal and installation of the "center roof antenna" don't mention adhesive. Only a nut to be removed, to allow the antenna to lift up. I haven't needed to remove mine for fixing, so I'm uncertain if there is actually adhesive there. But the workshop manual doesn't indicate any.

So, perhaps the nut is simply loose and is allowing "play" in the antenna. A tight nut with very good threadlocker might be all that's needed.

FYI, for consideration during the effort.

Remove a bunch of panels and the headliner ...
6. Remove the nut.
7. While pressing the center roof antenna tabs in the direction of arrows (1) shown in the figure,
press the center roof antenna in the direction of arrow (2) to detach the center roof antenna
tabs from the body.
8. Remove the center roof antenna.
9. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Good point. If there is nut, do that!
