! think he was saying that since gasoline engines (especially direct injection) are susceptible to fuel dilution in the oil, using supplemental fuel detergent can reduce this by insuring the injectors are clean. He recommended a bottle of Techron every 3K miles to reduce engine wear by reducing fuel dilution. (Dirty injectors can increase fuel dilution). But the argument for using the Techron additive WITH Top Tier fuel is not clear to me.
Not sure why he said that, maybe he misspoke. I don’t watch all his videos, but I have seen where he previously recommended oil changes every 5K miles, after the engine was broken in.And that dude apparently recommends 3,000 mile oil changes...lost my respect there...
Top tier yes, but this channel did say some odd thing. Like "Don't trust car manufacturer oil change at 5/7k. Do it at 3k". Then there was some other video that they push "See this car was at 7k oil change"... I'm like "no way.. Owner lie or shop they went to for a while just top off and never changed it"Ran across this in my feed. I don't see a lot of Mazdas in these videos.
Same as Shell. You get the highest additives in their best gas. Forgot where, but Shell and Chevron are top two companies that give the most additives.I don’t know about today, but years ago Chevron added more Techron to their premium gasoline vs the 87 octane.
I really like Sherwood. He is super thorough. What gets me about some of his videos is he leaves out massive critical information that could shed light on the problem. For example:Top tier yes, but this channel did say some odd thing. Like "Don't trust car manufacturer oil change at 5/7k. Do it at 3k". Then there was some other video that they push "See this car was at 7k oil change"... I'm like "no way.. Owner lie or shop they went to for a while just top off and never changed it"
What's that?Oh, god, let's not turn this into the "Oil Change" thread...![]()
Ya, I noticed that too. Guy might be driving and refilling at dump of a gas station most days. The kind that get low foot traffic and have gasoline for weeks.I really like Sherwood. He is super thorough. What gets me about some of his videos is he leaves out massive critical information that could shed light on the problem. For example:
In this video he says that he doesn't know where the guy gets gas. Ummm, isn't this a critical piece of information. If this dude got gas all over, then holy effing smokes, that's some bad build up and we in the mazda community should be worried. BUUUUUT...If he got the majority of his gas at one specific location or chain, then that's a totally different scenario.
So BP has their own "Invigorate" additive which is supposed to compete with Top Tier by meeting or exceeding the additives used. It's proprietary so hard to find detailed information, but that's what I can find.So I have been buying BP gas since I got my car, only to recently find out that BP left Top Tier in November of 2021, and they have not lowered their fuel prices. Now I've switched to Sunoco. Today Sunoco was $2.99/gallon.
I agree, he always says Toyota and Honda is first in most every category, but there are a lot of them that are broken in his repair videos and no Mazdas? He did mention one time that Mazdas were OK but he didn't like the comfort of the seats.Ran across this in my feed. I don't see a lot of Mazdas in these videos.
Gotta be careful with what people tell you. I once took a set of Junk Yard purchased wheels to a tire shop for them to put them on their machine to se if they were round and true. One of them looked like an egg while spinning (huge out of round). The tire guy said "Don't worry, you can balance that out". Just be careful and don't believe everything just because someone states something.I had a mechanic tell me that higher octane fuels can burn holes in your pistons, plus a whole other myriad of problems.
They do great work for me, but this line of thinking is absurd. I've been running 91-93 through my vehicles for years with no problems.
