Lost key fob but car starts and drives

We lost the 2013 CX5 fob last night. We only have one from when we bought it, used. The car starts and drives but no fob. We searched the entire car, moved seats. Is the fob maybe still in the car? I had an idea it dropped and got snagged on something and never dropped to the floor. My son went to two places: gas station and Walmart. He went back to check both places and asked if keys were found, but no luck. Is the push start malfunctioning or is the key really inside the car, still? What your opinion about this. Cheers and thanks.

It has to be in the car( or in close proximity of the interior of the car).

Check door pockets maybe? Or it could be wedged between the seat and the center console.

Or outside on the front cowl behind the wipers.

Could be in the trunk but I am not sure the car would start if it was that far back.

Usually when I lose mine it's because it dropped between the console and the seat and you can access it from the rear passenger seat.

I did the same thing, dropped the fob between the seats while I was running an errand.
Could still start the car so I knew it was inside. Took forever to finally find it, it was in the black hole vortex between the drivers seat and center console. That area sucks things in and refuses to give it back.

I often find “lost” stuff in the gap between the seat mount and the carpet. Where the carpet is cut to go around the mounting hardware, things can get under the loose edge of the carpet. Get a bright flashlight or droplight and get right in there and look and feel around. You might get lucky and find some loose candy in there while your at it. 😁

My daughter (22 years old) and I went out and searched the car. I think we didn’t search it well. I’ll go out there again. I am thinking the key maybe dropped and is hung-up on something and it didn’t fall to the carpet.

I always suggest this when someone has this problem:

Check if there are any articles of clothes like jeans or jackets that have pockets in the car. I saw a video a while ago where a car detailer had to clean an extremely dirty car and the owner told him that the car starts even though there’s no key fob. While taking out all the “junk” from the backseat, the detailer found the fob in the pocket of a pair of jeans.

Likely. I've had it either slip out of my RH-side pocket or dropped it while fumbling for the fob, and it has hung up in the seat/rail area immediately next to the center console. Occasionally it has bounced and skittered a good distance from that spot. Could be underneath the edge of one of the floor mats, either the driver's foot well or the rear passenger foot well.

In my case, the 2016 GT has a power driver's seat, so it's simple enough to raise and angle it a variety of ways, to visually check each and every crevice and cranny in the area. Using a flashlight can help, to peek into all the areas from a variety of angles.

Good luck finding it.

And, if you still have that little stamped numeric code from the fob, you ought to be able to order a second fob to have on-hand.
