September 2024 Latest gen Mazda Connect navigation map update

Downloaded the Mazda map update program, connected the SD card to the computer as requested, (my computer recognises the card) and it sits there and does nothing. No registration/log in screen pops up. Nada. Multiple attempts, left ot sitting there for 30 minutes, and nothing.

Is there some timeframe between buying a new CX5 and when the card is recognised and can be updated? New car delivered to us just over 3 weeks ago.

called Mazda HQ here in Aus - no we cant help you, you have to fill in the contact form at the bottom of the navigation page. ….. and wait….

You do not need to register an account or log in to MapUpdateGlobalAdv as in Mazda Toolbox.

If the program does not find the SD card in your system it will respond with a red text "Please insert Mazda navigation SD card".

If an SD card is found, the opening screen tells you the latest version, the version on your SD card and if your SD card qualifies for the update.

Try to contact the dealer where you bought the car. They should be able to help you.

“Mazda Update Toolbox” is the map update program we use here in Aus and yes, you do need to create an account by registering. States that clearly in the guide. Had to do the same using “Mazda Toolbox” on my 2015/16 KE.

What’s supposed to happen after the program is launched and you insert the SD card is that it prompts you to register or log in. Its not doing that. Just doesn’t get past the screen where it asks you to insert the Sd card.

Got a reply from Naviextras support asking me to open the sd card and find the “license” folder and if its not there, to screen shot the cards file heirachy and send it to them. There is no License folder on my card so I have told them that and sent screenshots to show them whats there, will probably have to wait until Monday now since its past 10pm Friday night here now.

Do I need the payed version of maps in order to install this? At the time of purchase, I did not pay extra for maps.

When purchased the CX-5 in The Netherlands in 2023 with the latest generation infotainment (Mazda Connect, not MZD Connect), we got a five year subscription of free map updates.

Edit: "we got a five year subscription to map updates for free"

Cars with the latest infotainment (Mazda Connect and not MZD Connect) need another program to update the maps. On the SD card there is no license folder.

Mazda changed to another navigation company Telenav.

You need to download the program you can found on the link I have provided in my first posting of this tread. When downloaded it is called MapUpdateGlobalAdv.exe (for Windows).

My August 2024 build date CX5 runs Mazda Connect of course.

Here is the link to Mazda Australia’s website for map updates for Mazda Connect which takes you to Naviextras to download “Mazda Update Toolbox”

“Mazda Toolbox” is the older version used for MZD Connect that I had on my KE. I deleted it from my PC when I downloaded and installed MUT.

Why would they provide incorrect info??

Did you solve your problem with the map update?

Why they seems to provide incorrect information is a question you have to ask to Mazda Australia ;-)

Still waiting to hear back from support. Again.

Meanwhile - Found a less obvious link on the navigation update page said to check the SD card number which then indicated a special version of the update software is used for wireless Carplay (which mine has).

Drafted my IT specialist son onto the job and he has got the software downloaded and has the map update happening…. Looks like its going to work but will take some time. Will report back later.

Ok the new software worked and maps updated successfully. Only took about 50 minutes or so.

As my IT specialist son commented, now that there are 3 versions of Mazda Connect, Mazda should have either a QR code on the sd card that you scan and then takes you directly to the correct software, or they should have a additional step in the website process for you to enter the card serial number/ID that then takes you to the correct software.

Would avoid all this grief.

Have pinned the software shortcut to the PC task bar so its easily found next time the map is updated.

Thanks all for the help along the way.

I agree that Mazda is not only not very clear in which version for which SD card, but also gives misinformation on their Australian website.
They should do better!

When my new CX-5 was delivered in July 2023, the dealer and Mazda Netherlands had no information why Toolbox did not work with my new SD card. I found the information about the new map provider and the new program to update the maps myself on the internet and informed my dealer and Mazda Netherlands.

Good to read that your problem has been solved!

Mine is a second generation. Found a discount code in the e-mail and just bought a 3 year plan for 108$ USD. Better than one update for 80$.

It works on some bootleg cards, and it bricks others. Update at your own risk. Personally I'd buy a new card, but it may be some time before they show up.
