Would you buy this cx5 or one with lower miles? Buying Advice needed.

:
2016.5 CX5 Touring
We are looking to possibly buy a CX5 touring model in the next few months. One has came up for sale that has peeked my interest a bit earlier than I want to buy.

This one has been up for sale for more than one month. It has "higher" miles but for a grand touring it is the cheapest within hundreds of miles from me.

Or should I go for one with less miles and pay more? If I get one with less than 60k miles I will get a warranty but I might have to pay 19k for one of those.

Is 16k for almost 90k miles too much still? It has been for sale for one month and no buyers.

When car shopping should I never pay over KBB? As a car owner and having sold several cars on craigslist and such over the years, I have never even been able to sale a car unless listing for KBB or LESS. Why should I pay more? The goal is to not get a used vehicle and still be "upside down" on the loan right away. These appear to lose around $1500-2000 per year in value like most vehicles. I am trying not to have a 4k year of loss(dealer inflation + depreciation).

I wouldn't let the extra miles scare you.

$15,680 for a CX-5 GT w/85k miles sounds like quite a steal really, that is less then half price!

It really comes down to how the previous owner treated and maintained it, damaged etc,.

Look at the KBB "trade-in" value as starting point.(drinks)

Should I skip the grand touring entirely because of the LED headlight issues? We are honestly looking at a regular touring with no frills. Most of this tech just seems to fall apart and cost a ton of money to repair.

Looking at the dealer pics, if they are accurate, that CX-5 doesn't have LED headlights or DRL's so that shouldn't be a concern.

The tech package on the '16 GT added the LED's.

So on the 2016 GT you had to pay extra to get the LED headlight? On 2016.5(ones with heated cloth seats) you got that included? DRL is what exactly? Running lights? Built into the headlight like LED strips?

I don't remember on the 2016.5 what was standard (it changed I think), but on the 2016, yes, it required the Technology package to get the LED headlights. Yes, DRL is daytime running lights and that's what many owners have had issues with on the '16, not the LED headlights themselves.

That car is $4-5k overpriced. For a car with that many miles, I wouldn*t pay over trade-in value, which is about 10,500-12500.

You mention not wanting to be *upside down on the loan*. You buy that one, and you will be from the start. Imo, that one will sit until it*s loaded up and taken to auction, where it will sell for less than $10k.

Touring with Tech and GT with Tech had those mean looking headlights. Base Touring has that halogen DRL like a giant bird with yellow poop some how took a dump perpendicular to the car face. Both are awful in one way - but judging by the # of Accords / CX5s / etc with accent LEDs that are one - eyed, its good to stay away from those. You can get a Touring base or Touring with Bose Audio - get one with 15K warranty miles left atleast as there are 16s that had Txn issues. Dont expect dealers to fix it already. I would totally drop a trim to get a CPO if I am a value buyer.
Plus if DRL is your thing - you can get Mazda OEM DRL from UK for about $230 and fix it, would last longer and look nicer. Disable the yellow blobs and roll in style.

We are on a somewhat tight budget but need a "newer" vehicle. For years we have only purchased 10 year old cars with higher miles and traded them every 3 or 4 years. I am determined to get a mazda as they drive very nice compared to the CRV and Rav 4. CPO cars are like pre-paying for repairs you may never make but mazda is extra nice and extends the warranty to 100k miles. Sadly it only is good for 7 years so if I am buying a 2016, it gives me 2 extra years. It is something to consider for sure but many of the CPO CX5's I have seen are many thousands more than similar cars from other dealers and non CPO. That just might not be an option for our budget. I would hope the CX5 is rather reliable as it is :)

2013 CX5 - Touring or GT with 2.0L 155hp / 150 lb ft of torque lowest mileage you can get / CPO should be under 12k.
You say low budget then go for GT? Tires are expensive, any dealer will charge you more seeing a GT. Too many electronics to break / imagine having to replace a 19inch wheel.
Unless you want 2.5L - 2.0L is actually great and you will be doing 30-32 avg mpg as well. Get a 2013 late model year for 12-13K. Enjoy.

Yes, you had to get the TECH package for the lights.

That's not a bad price IMO.

I have owned two cars the same age and one with three times the other. It was then that I realized miles dosn't mater any more. the drive trains are quite reliable. The rest of the car falls apart and when you drive it to the scrap yard it drives great. In other words, don't worry about the miles. Go make them a low offer, when they tell you there is someone coming in this afternoon to look at it, grin and leave let them call you.

I wouldn't buy it. According to the car fax its been in a collision.

Vehicle involved in a rear-end collision
Involving left side impact
Moderate damage reported

Find out, offer them $12k for it. More than $12-12,500 and you paid way too much anyhow.

I retract my offer. lol

This one goes to auction and won't fetch $10k.

Nah. I'd probably let mine slide today for $5k more (still $3k below KBB trade-in value) with 2yr/26k left on the factory warranty, accessories galore with ceramic coating and window tint to boot...

And now we find out she's also been wrecked. This one is for a gullible impulse buyer who gets talked to into a nice looking car with bad credit. Lol Is what it is, just sayin'

My CX5 is a 2015 Touring AWD model with 92K miles on it. Newish tires, pristine shape, no accidents, etc. Dealer offers me $10-12K for it regularly.

You cool with them making $4K off of you?

To me, that's WAY TOO MUCH, and I used to do that for a living. I'd laugh all the way to the steakhouse after that deal.

If you really like the 90K one, I'd come in, offer t hem $8-10K for it, and they can either take it or not. When they laugh in your face, show them the trade-in value for it. When they laugh again, show them the carfax showing the wreck, and tell them they can keep it or call you, and walk out. What've you got to lose if they don't take your offer?

That said, how the hell you make a website with "beaver" and "cumming" in the URL and it's work-safe?!

Yep, that*s what I*m saying. If they don*t take it, she*s headed to auction very shortly and she*ll be lucky to fetch $8-10k...

LMAO, beaver and Cumming...Cumming is a great little spot to live near the lake outside the ATL. Have friends there...
