You cannot tell if they are “ditching” the Kodo front end at all from these photos. If anything, look for the new Mazda3 concept to share the nose of the 2017 CX-5. It’s an evolutionary progression of the original Kodo design. Mazda stated this long ago as their new designs will be an evolutionary form of Kodo.

What I see, from the Mazda3 concept shown on other sites, is a longer hood and sleeker rear end. That means less interior space and less cargo room (see 2016+ CX-9). Form over function most likely.

If the new Mazda3 comes out with less interior and cargo space, we will never hear the end of it from certain users. Just kidding. I have to say that new hatchback design is looking pretty slick. First thing I thought when I saw it was, are they doing a mini Panamera haha.

Clearly the real car wont be so 'extremely' styled but it does look pretty neat.

Funny though, the rear end looks almost under-styled compared to the rest.

Mazda Kai Concept previews 2019 Mazda3

We believe the new Mazda 3 on the updated platform wont be available until early or mid-2019. Its likely the brand will maintain its current 2.0 and 2.5-litre powertrains and keep Skyactiv-X engines for range-topping models.

While I am not a sedan guy, certain coupes are an exception.

Yo Monty- less cargo room, more claustrophobic back seat, monstrous c-pillars for sucky rear visibility... but it's a looker for sure. Just needs a nose job.

Yeah if they just throw 250 or something at the front wheels I'd go BRZ w/perf in :01 but if they do it right (and I don't need 300) but if they hook it up w/awd, maybe a drift mode or a sport diff that can throw more tq rearward it could make me forget about the twins- they're def not perfect but they are pure and a dying breed I'm afraid.

It would never happen, but just imagine if they slipped the Miata RWD architecture under the top trim? Front/rear split at 30/70.
