What did you pay for your CX-5?

Hello all,

I'm attempting to join the Mazda family for the first time. I was wondering if someone could provide some advice as I've never purchased a New car before.

Quote for CX-5 Grand Touring

""The adjusted price, after discounts and rebates, is $28,540.90. The taxes on that is $877.20. The Admin fee is $699 which is non-negotiable, even employees are required to pay that. And the Department of motor vehicles charges $104 for a new title and license plate. Everything together comes out to $30,221.10."""

Is this pretty good would you say? That admin fee seems high, and I don't know if he's telling the truth or not. There are three dealerships in a 30mile radius of me as well.

What is the MSRP for the car.
Sticker price??

Lets say the Sticker price is 30,000 /
Figure your discount %, this includes everything. Lets say its 8%.
So now your car is 30,000 minus 2400 = 27600 (Add taxes etc.)
-- The Admin fee is $699 which is non-negotiable check NC state law on this. If its not a law then work with Out of Door price, this is too high. I paid 200 for admin fees.

This is what Truecar had to say about admin fees:

http://www.truecar.com/blog/2011/09/30/dealership-fees-which-fees-should-you-question/

Administration Fees: Generally, this is a fee that consumers should not pay and should ask the dealer to remove. There are rare instances, however, when a car manufacturer does charge the dealer an admin fee, which may be due to some legislation in a particular state, such as parts cost reimbursement for repairs under warranty, but this is the exception and not the rule. Defer to the rule of comparing the factory invoice with the sales sheet. If you see an admin fee as a line item on the factory invoice, it is a legitimate fee. If you’re still suspicious, you can tell the dealer that you know this fee isn’t a standard and you would like an explanation.

Hello,

Sticker price is 30,135$ ..... So just about 5.4% off? ---Is that crappy? Seems like it might be crappy, but I have 0 experience.... :/

7-12% seems doable. I think there are few who have done better than that.
At the end you need to look at OTD price as well since doc fees are high.
Between how urgently you want it and what is your situation - can you wait etc. your discount might vary.

I would do this as a first timer.

1. Verify this is the car I truly want - youtube videos / reviews is fine. Test drive is the real deal.
2. email for offers. Be cordial and refuse to go to a dealer without a quote.
3. See your best offer - if you can wait, wait a bit. If you get a real good offer - ask for freebies like cargo mat etc. / free service etc.
4. Go in - inspect vehicle and pay the OTD price (sort financing before this). If dealer forces you to use his financing - you can change in 30 days to your pref. Usually costs you $100 more.

Never quote a price unless you are sure you want to buy it at that price. Buying can be a roller coaster, I had no offers till Saturday morning, Sat evening I was driving a new CX5. So it might take time - month end might bring surprises.
Also look at Mazda website for any cash backs. gl.

The Admin fee is $699???!!! No way I am paying that.
I paid for $80 doc fee. That is the max I am willing to pay for them to run to DMV for me....

Local Mazda dealers used to add *advertisement fee* (around $200). No more these days.

Thank you for the advice. What is a bit rough is, one of the dealers only has 1 in the color and trim I want. So I do feel a little desperate. Maybe I should wait though. I don't know. Or consider a different color. I've received two quotes from two different dealerships.....They are about 200$ apart as far as OTD price. One has Admin fee of 500$ the other is 699$.... lol --- From what I've seen online. 699$ is an insane amount for an admin fee.

Looking to buy a 2017 CX-5 Grand Select in white. Lowest price I've received is $26,250+ttl. Should I go for it?

We should appreciate Kaps' contribution helping those new CX-5 buyers! I've learned a lot on car purchasing from his helpful posts too! (thumb)

Hi, what's dealership it was? I also live in MA and looking for a good deal for CX-5 GT.
And I also have a question where is the price bottom line for CX-5 GT? 300$ ? I see you got 315$ per month it seems like a good deal, doesn't it?

Just use this method at any dealer and you'll be good. I went in and said I want to pay $310 a month with $2k down. I said i'd be happy to sign papers right now for $310. If you can't get to $310 then give me your lowest price and I will go to the next Mazda dealer to compare. He came back with $330 I said no. He said can you meet me in the middle I said not really, $312 is my highest. He went back to his manager and came back with $315. I signed because it was the color and model that I wanted and the only other dealer who had it was far away. If I stayed firm I probably could have got $310.

The salesmen's number one rule is don't let the customer walk out the door without signing because chances are someone else will sign them and they won't be back.

To answer your question on price bottom, it depends how much money you put down. I based my $315 a month on reading what others where getting for leases, and also because my lease for my Mazda3 was ending and for that I was paying 300 a month with the same 2k down for a 29k sticker price. I figured I prob couldn't get 300 a month again for a 33k sticker price.

greetings from TX.
Was your 3 damaged? that is too low for a 3 - but maybe miles are higher.
30K OTD seems a little high but its Florida - cars will be super expensive now, specially when people wont trust used cars due to water damage - more so true in Houston.

anyone from Texas is looking into CX-5 touring or GT trim? Looks like Houston dealers is being very arrogant right now. not sure about Austin or Dallas dealers. Any thoughts
Thanks

I would recommend Ryan at Hiley Mazda in Arlington or Lance at Freeman Mazda in Dallas.

Basically due to Harvey they don't have to discount much. Freeman were nice since they gave me email quote without asking me to come in first. 5-7% off MSRP is probably decent now considering how things are. Call Sean at El Dorado. See what's the best he can do.
