The importance of "low ash" oil cannot be overstated. Many TDI owners had their oil changed at the "quick lube" places who never ever heard about the correct oil. Others thought it was just a way for dealers to get more money from owners. I bought mine when it went on sale from a few dealers and Amazon.com also sells it. My VW oil (Mobil 1 507.0) was also certified for use in diesels made by BMW and Mercedes. This should be one of the first things to get organized after you pick up your Mazda diesel.

100% agree.

You just have to drive 30 minutes at 2,000+ rpm to burn those particulate every 1,000 kms. That's what my agent and a friend told me.

Anchorman, you forgot another picture.

No it's much easier with this new model. It's all automatic and only takes about 10 minutes. However, owners will be convinced it's on fire the first few times, the exhaust gets super hot and everything smells of burning.

Another one of those regional anomalies. Maybe because ours are virtually all diesel

All black without the sports mode too.

Question, how come my emblem is 3D. I read from somewhere here that the 3D emblem only comes with the entry level without sensors.

Diesels don't get sports mode I believe

OH NOES! No Racecar!?

Seriously, this is a deal-maker for me. If I do buy another CX5, it will have to be diesel. The diesel is really growing on me. If they can get it to do 0-60 in the low 7's, I'll be really hard pressed not to get it, regardless of how stupid it is financially.

It's not worth losing the money to trade in what you currently have.

Just keep your car if you are happy with it. trading in and losing money for a different engine is not worth it.

I agree it's stupid, financially, but the 2017 corrects all that I quibble about.

1: It's a buzzzy annoying POS of a ride for the highway...2017 got real insulation.
2: The engine is nutless and struggles at higher loads, this is evident with the crap mileage it gets doing 80mph...the diesel would fix that, I bet.
3: The gas tank is stoopid small, meaning you can actually not even go as far on a road-trip as you could with a V8 sports car or V8 SUV, before getting gas. The diesel fixes this through virtue of increased mpg.

I have also always held the impression that diesel drive-lines simply last longer/more miles.

However, I bet I just keep my 2015 and enjoy not having a note that much sooner. I dunno.

does your car burn any oil? you could just have a weak example that doesnt get good MPG, it is a possibility.

I will admit that the 2.5L's current output isnt impressive for the cx-5.

I am satisfied with the output of my 3200 pound mazda 6 around town, but on the highway it can be a little gutless.

MPG is like, really good. It's an overachieving vehicle for being a simple A-B family sedan. I just think more people should give the heavily underrated 6 sedan a look because since it's lower to the ground and more aerodynamic, it's very composed and pretty quiet on the highway. MPG is quite good because of it's sleek sedan shape and it's got PLENTY of torque for ripping about in the city. It's noisy on the highway because of the Yokohama tires. they are great tires, but switch them out for something quieter and that will help lots.

if you are not satisfied with the acceleration in your car, you could look into orange virus tuning which can make your car compatible with 91 octane. that should give it a much needed kick in power.

It is a lot better now. I am getting 31 MPG consistently on long interstate trips averaging 75 MPH. Don't get up past 80 much, so can't comment on that, but I was averaging around around 27-28 MPG over same roads/speeds with previous model and both FWD. Diesel would be better for sure if you do a lot of highway driving, but I couldn't wait. I would have bought it if it was available this past spring. Driving distance does suck, but at least now I can consistently break 300 easily before the light comes on, which is pretty laughable. I could go 600 miles on my '05 Passat diesel. The diesel is going to make this an incredible vehicle in my opinion.

Here the diesel was tested doing 0-100km/h in mid 8 seconds

I'm all in when the diesel is available, will be my first Mazda, but I have to say, Skyactiv is a stupid branding name. Its always bothered me. WTF is it supposed to mean.

I'm not questioning what is the technology. I'm questioning, what the name is supposed to evoke. Active sky, sky active, air, space, flying, motion...? What does that have to do with the technology it encompasses? It seems like a catch all, and means nothing to people unfamiliar with Mazda.

If you say "Die-Hard" battery. Nobody has to explain what image that branding is trying to evoke.

Or Vtec, to be more relevant. It isn't too much of a stretch to "Valve Timing Electronic Control" , or maybe you'd guess "Valve Technology", good enough. Valve stuff that makes the engine better.

G Vectoring control, Light stiff chassis, something about their 6 speed transmission, clean efficient engines. They seem to just lump anything that they think is good into the bucket. If it means everything, it means nothing.

No oil consumption.
0-60 is mid high 7s just like it should be per the auto tests I've read.
It's just the nature of the beast. It was tuned for the epa loop, not real world use across the large states.
