Hello,

I looked through the sticky on current CX-5 selling prices, but couldn't find much specific to Canada. I'm looking at buying a 2016.5 AWD GS (no packages) and am wondering what's a good price? What have other people paid?
Thanks!

I bought a 2016 CX-5 GT Tech last week at the dealer in central-east Toronto - which I would not recommend - and found your best bet is likely walking in with a Car Cost Canada printout in hand, they appeared willing to match the dealer invoice price on it no questions asked. The current round of incentives - Summer Escape/ stackable cash ends today - and as applicable the customer loyalty and first-time buyer (defined as having no auto finance history) all come off the total. Beyond that I don't think there's much room to negotiate... Mazda dealers in the GTA appear to be having no problems selling CX-5s right now.

Thanks for the advice!

Looks like the 'Summer Escape' event ends tomorrow (Aug. 31), although that date was already extended once so that may or may not happen again.

Although the MSRP is the same, you will find incentives and financing are slightly better on 2016 vs. 2016.5. I got 0% financing for 72 months on a 2016, increased from 48 by the customer loyalty incentive - no complaints about that.

I'm hoping to start negotiations for the same model this week in Winnipeg. dstark are you saying you were able to get the Car Cost Canada invoice price +0%?? Following the suggested method from Unhaggle/CCC/Red Flag Deals, I was planning to start at invoice ($29,115 for the GS AWD) +2 or 3% before tax and fees - incentives.

Tip for any other Canadians looking to buy right now: You can get three free Car Cost Canada reports right now, until the end of the day (Sept. 5).

Thanks for the tip! I signed up :) Good luck with the negotiations, let us know how you make out!

PillowRage - CarCostCanada + 0% - incentives was the indication I received from Gyro Mazda in Toronto, though I believe that dealer has some sort of referral deal with CarCost which may factor into it. May or may not be the case in other areas. Gyro cold-called me hours after I ordered the CarCost report. Ultimately I went a different route and got a 2016 demo with no freight, same-as-new financing and incentives, extra time on the warranty etc. In hindsight I perhaps should have gone with the CarCost option but the colour and trim GT with Tech package was available as a demo

Not sure if this helps but we just bought out 2016 GT w/Tech and when I was doing research I found out the prices of some of the 2016 models and packages. There was no difference in price from the 2016 to the 2016.5, only difference was the financing rates are better on the 2016 models.

2016 Mazda CX-5 GS AWD 6AT
MSRP: $31,245
Invoice Price: $29,115

2016 Mazda CX-5 GT
MSRP: $34,895
Invoice Price: $32,168

So we ended up buying a 2016.5 GS AWD on the weekend! We had a trade-in, which added a bit of a twist into the negotiation process. On paper we paid MSRP, but they gave us more than Black Book for our trade.

We were expecting to get $5k for the trade, and that's what other dealerships had been offering us. The dealership we bought from offered us $7k. I doubt we would have even been able to sell it for $7k privately - 2 insurance claims, some surface rust forming, quite a few dents from parking lots, etc.

Running the numbers, getting $7k for the trade and paying MSRP worked out to the same as getting $5k for the trade and paying invoice +1%, so we're happy with the deal. Could we have got a better deal by really haggling and trying to get $7k for the trade AND pay invoice +X%, playing dealerships against each other, etc? Maybe. But doing it like this was super straightforward, and I don't want to spend a bunch of time over-analyzing the deal just to find out we could've saved a few hundred dollars. Haha.

We pick it up on Tuesday! Now to buy some winter tires and start getting it ready for the Winnipeg winter... First time with anything other than FWD, so I'm looking forward to it.

Congrats! We just picked up our 2016 GT a couple of weeks and loving it so far. I am sure you wont be disappointed.
Also need to pick up some winters for our lovely Maritime winter :(

We tried last fall to play hard ball and did the whole pitting one dealer against another and really pushing for more off and better value on our trade-in but then got sick of trying because most didnt seem to be wanting to play so we said the hell with it and kept our car for the winter and then in June started again. We went to our local dealership and I went in with an attitude because last year they low balled us on our trade-in value. This time I dealt with the Sales Manager and we did lots of back and fourth but it was no BS and quite a straight forward process, on top of that they offered us like $1500 more on our trade-in than last year! No idea how that works but wasnt going to argue with that :)
