What have you done to your MSP today?

cool thanks.

what's your approach to installing the new axle seals? tap in with rubber hammer and grease the seal before putting the axle in? i need all the help i can get. you know i'm not a pro at these things and i'm not trying to do it a second time :)
Use a socket that's big enough to tap the seal in evenly or get a seal install kit from harbor freight. Rub some grease in the seal after install then install axle. Be vary careful the the Axel is contamination free.

Got the axles out, trans out and clutch/flywheel in a couple days ago. Trans is back in but need to finish buttoning everything up, hopefully will be able to do that today. Still need to get new axle seals for both cars before it's done and have to get a new battery for 1574 but it will be nice to drive it again for the first time since Feb.

Got the car running, it ran awesome for three days and 300 miles then the trans failed completely turning into my neighborhood. It started grinding and wouldn't got into any gear then it crunched and clunked really loud and is stuck partway in gear. Pulled it home with a strap and it's back in the garage. Putting the junkyard trans I just bought in this car and selling it as soon as I can once the trans is in. Then I will pull the trans in the other car to rebuild it. I love MSPs but mine are both testing my patience, sick and tired of having them both broken down for months at a time. The first one was fine the first 6 years I owned it and ever since my luck has ran out.

You guys have terrible luck heh. Im still mostly stock minus the intercooler and pope stuff and havent had any serious problems. Sure my dif blew up but still rolling it like 25k later lol.
In a way i stopped caring after all the p5 swaps. The realization i could get engines, trans and entire parts cars for less than the handful of parts id need heh...

Baught two p5s for less than the dif i needed to replace lol

I found a P5 trans with 98k on craigslist for $100, turns out the seller is an old coworker of mine from the Mazda dealer. Gonna put that in 1574 and save the 46k mile trans for 1345. Just have to swap the LSD over and get new axles or boots because both sides are leaking like crazy now

Question:

Will a 1997 mx6 v6 manual transmission drop in? Ive heard some differening things about bellhousings ect for the v6. I can get the trans with starter and anything i need for cheap. Will it mate to my clutch and axles?

found my vac leak. turns out the 626 injector seals i replaced with a few years ago are all leaking air.. just looking at the seals themselves, should there be an additional oring under/above them to better seal the air? the replacements seemed quite hard and i couldnt imagine them sealing against cast aluminum too well..
are WRX injectors similar enough to ours that i could use a service kit for them?

No, the bellhousing is most definitely different. I am fairly certain the axles are the same diameter and spline, though. I know that internal components are transferable between the KL G-series and the FS G-series. But bolt up for use? Nope.

I picked up transmission #8 Saturday morning from PaP. While I was there, I look over at their staging yard and there sits a spicy... Waiting for it to hit the yard, then every ******* part on that thing is mine. I have worked on the car, it's former owner is a current owner of an 03.5 and a member of this forum. He sold it 4 months ago for $4300, saw the kid posting on the local forums with engine issues and got down to $900 but it was two days before I left for vacation and when I got back, it was no longer listed. Two months later, it sits at Pull-A-Part and he probably got no more than $400 for it... Dumbass people. I'd have given him $900, but I didn't want to spend it before going out of town. Unfortunately PaP will NOT sell the entire car to me. I am getting every body panel I can get and, of course, everything MSP specific. Most will be kept for spares, but I will sell some of what I have multiples of already. When I was getting the transmission, I robbed the remaining components to reinstall AC into the car and have it all installed with the exception of a new drier. All that room I had in my engine bay all these years, that made working on the car that much easier was all undone and I had to reroute some things. All and all, I could care less as I'll actually have functional A/C...

No, I drive my car. Every drive, whether it be to work or the grocery store, the car gets a workout and I intentionally take the twistiest roads I can find.

I'm glad you were able to save what you could. Dumb ass people SMH. I just saved a laserblue from the salvage yard. Best needs a crash bar, bumper cover fender hood and main radiator support. I have all but the crash bar on hand. Best guess as to why it doesn't start is the alarm.

Get to install transmission #8 this weekend! And finish up the A/C reinstall. I have already fixed the leaking AWR pan (again) and installed a replacement wideband sensor for my damaged one. As opposed to paying $120 for a replacement sensor, just snagged one from a VW at PaP. It's just a matter of installing a new drier, vacuuming, leak testing and charging the system for A/C to be functional. Hope it works better than it did when I last had it. The Mishimoto fan shroud will surely help.

Transmission #8 got installed yesterday- 3 hours from the time I raised the hood until I was driving it down my street. Filled it with OEM GM Syncromesh. Compared to the Pennzoil Syncromesh, the GM is as thin as water. It's crazy.

When you've done it as many times as I have- in the area of 30 I'd say- it becomes incredibly easy.

yeah i checked out the pennzoil syncromesh at the store and shook it. i was like what... this is the consistence of water. do you ever mix any of your gear oil with lucas oil stabilizer?

Civic gear oil is the same way. Like water.

Not in any personal application, though I've added it at customers request before. Actually, I believe I may have used it in one of my old Civics 13 or 14 years ago, maybe.
