Door Still Protection - Recommendations?

Hi All,

While I sit here and wait for the recall to be completed, I caught modding fever. I can't remember if the car comes with still plates but I strongly doubt it. I'm leary about spending $100+ for the plates and came across this.

Has anyone tried using a clear film protection in lieu of still plates?

IMO... clear film probably wouldn't hold up over the long term but if you were prepared to to reapply every few years might work.

I went OEM but as GP 2004 says there are 3rd party options as well. I think the sills look classy but like everything subjective. I'd rather scratch the hell out of the sill guard than the actual paint.

I bought this rear bumper sill protector:

Have had it for over a year and a half and no problems.

I had the OEM metal rear bumper protector which has rubber around the outside edges. It was a complete POS. Didn't provide nearly as much coverage as the aliexpress one, and it looked cheap with the rubber.

On aliexpress search for "cx5 rear bumper" and you will get a ton of different styles. They even have protectors for the inner trim of the hatch opening,

Do your research because multiple sellers sell the same product at much different prices!

I put those in mine. I ended up having to drill it and secure with screws though. Even after applying additional double side 3M tape they would occasionally get loosened as something being loaded would snag on it and I would have to press it back down.

I've found that this 3M Primer 94 is really required to get the bumper guard to stick.
