It's Been a While... Help!

Okay, so I went to AAMCO today to get a quote on transmission work and a diagnostic... So, I came back with knowledge of a badly bent rim, and that a basic rebuild is going to cost me $1500... I have about $1000 to fix both of these problems... What should I do? I'm pretty much paddling up s##t creek without a paddle right now. I may have found some rims off a Mazda 3 for $275ish, plus the cost of putting my tires on them. But I'm lost as far as the trans.

What is the transmission doing? Automatic?

You could probably find a cheap steel rim off Craigslist.

Put the bent wheel on the back and live with it. If it's not leaking air, you can still drive on it. Pick and pulls usually have a good selection of mismatched wheels, there's a chance they may have a matching Mazda alloy for you.

Auto or manual trans? Generally it is not cost effective to rebuild them. Find a used one and have it installed, should be able to have it done for under a thousand. Check Car-part.com and your local salvage yards.

They put the wheel on the back at AAMCO, so that's that for now... The transmission is a manual. I checked Car-Part recently and the closest trans is 125 miles away, and has higher miles than mine... I'm looking online for a decently priced remanufactured one... I love this car, but it's been like this for as long as I've owned it. One thing after another, I'm tempted to just cut my losses soon and move on..

If I get a 626 transmission (4 cyl.) and just buy a speed sensor, can a slap the sensor on the 626 trans and bolt it up into my car? Or is there more work than that involved?
