What have you done to your Miata today?

I have to ask, what does MIYO mean?

Heard back from Reverant. Apparently my MS is one of his earlier builds and it does not have the CAN setup like his more recent ones. Not a huge deal, I just have to remove it from the car, open it up and add some wires to the board.

Met up with a small group of people to drive to Columbus for a swap meet. The guy in front of me told me the front end of mine looks intimidating in the rearview mirror. Maybe that's why people seem to drive like idiots when I'm passing them. Or maybe they are just idiots.

Sold some things at the swap meet, and bought this:

Going to try to get them installed tomorrow. That's if I don't have any aftereffects from the wicked sunburn I have.

AANNNNDDDDDDD the brakes won't work with my Flatouts. Just not quite enough clearance. I will have to try and find out what wheels will work, and if I like any of them enough to buy a set.

I was surprised though to find the bigger rotors were lighter then the stock sized ones. I was told the calipers are also lighter than the stockers but I didn't remove mine to find out (just tucked it out of the way while I checked fitment).

I sold mine on Saturday. My company would have paid to move/ship it, but the roads where I am moving to would have given it a slow death.

It did go to a really nice home where he will be driven daily and enjoyed. (Yes, the 10AE was a he!)

Looking good Mike! Love those custom sills, they came out awesome!

:( Chris Any plans to add another car to the stable or just keeping the 3 for now?

Despite having to add weight to the car, I'm still finding places to lose weight (so it can go somewhere better). This time: driver's side seat mounts. No before / after weights because I got lazy, but the mounts basically were the 2 seat rails, with 2 pieces of steel angle iron perpendicular to them to make a square, with the upper edge of the Ls supporting the seat front and rear, and a couple long bolts through it all to pull everything tight. It was sub-optimal but it worked gud enuf for a long while, but I'm not happy with it anymore, and now I have the ability to do something about it without TOO much effort.

Using 1" x 1/8" bar-stock:

I've got some weld-nuts on the way that will be welded to the bottom of the brackets, then the brackets will welded to the rail and gusseted if I feel like it's still lacking strength. Still have to make a pair for the rear, but I want the fronts done and secured before I do the rears.

This will be a much stronger mount that's several pounds of steel lighter.

Bolts holding the weld-nuts on. The air space between the nuts and the collar is actually a standoff built in to the nuts that a) gives you somewhere to weld into the meat of the nut, and b) prevents you from welding into the threaded portion of the nut. Clever design.

Made a couple transfer punches out of a pair of bolts. Worked like a charm.

Yay welds that look like what welds are supposed to look like.

Maff, I think you might have a second career as a welder.

The guy I bought the brakes from found the spacers, he's sending them to me.

Wife and I went out last night, while waiting on her outside a store I decided to take a picture (don't everyone fall over):

Not even close, unfortunately. I'd need to spend a bunch of money on getting certified, and learning a bunch of different types of welding in order to be able to actually make a living on it. I'll stick to stuff I'm ACTUALLY good at. It is a good backup skill to have just in case though, for sure.

THUNK Sorry, that was just me falling over after seeing Mike took a pic and then uploaded it! haha :P She's looking good Mike and happy to hear the guy found those spacers.

Yes, great work Maff! I read your posts and get envious of your skillz.

Yesterday I found why my rearview mirror was vibrating. Sourced some goodies from the machine shop here at work to screw/tap the mirror and then used a set screw to secure it. No more shaking cars in my rear view now. A few minutes ago I installed an 03 Mazda6 wiper switch. Next time it rains I'll have the 'luxury' of variable intermittent wipers. :)

Just the 3 and I am loving it. Not even 10k into the car and I modded it. ;) (Springs and rear sway bar.)

I won't go into it all here and bore you, but I pulled my MS from under the dash today to add the two wires I needed to accept the digital signal from my wideband. Got that all done but now my Tuner Studio won't communicate with the MS, plus the directions I got with the wideband interface must be for a newer version as none of the menus match up with what I have. I am now trying to update TS.

Had a guy get a rolling picture of me at the local cars & coffee yesterday (credit to the photographer as listed on the picture):
