Bikes in the Back of CX5....

We are looking for a fun to drive suv. My wife and I drove an x5, and although it was nice in some ways, my wife found it too big and heavy. So, back to the drawing board. My next thought is a cx5. One criteria for me is to be able to get a bike in the back of it with the rear seats folded. Has anyone here put bikes back there, and if so is there enough room to keep the front wheel on? Is there anywhere I can get measurements (length and width) of the cargo area with seats folded? I searched but couldn't find it.

i can put my bike in the back fine with the seats folded and i dont have to remove the front wheel or anything else. The seats also fold down nice and flat with the cx5 unlike most other cars.

Yes, you can easily get a bike back there. In fact, you can get two road bikes and all your triathlon gear for a weekend trip to Austin for the Capital of Texas Triathlon. As shown below. LOL!!!

It can be done with the wheels off. I can fit one mtn. bike and gear with one of the seats folded down if I have to. 99% of the time I use the hitch rack which I HIGHLY suggest.
Go to UHAUL and have them install a hitch for $150. Go to www.1upusa.com and pick up this awesome rack and you are set.
Saves trouble of removing wheels and scratching inside of the car.
I transported 3 bikes and 3 dudes with gear last weekend

Thanks for the responses....keeping the front wheel on my mtn bike is just one of those things I like to do if possible....Sounds like it could work. Hopefully taking a test drive today....

We went to test drive the cx5 this afternoon. Liked the drive, found only a couple of places where Mazda chintzed out (no memory seats, passenger seat is manual). Why do they have to do that, wouldn't take much to add these small features...As for room, I need about 70 inches in back with the seats folded down for my mtn bike, and that's almost exactly what is back there. So I think it will fit fine, especially with the front wheel on but turned. We both liked the drive, not a lot of power obviously but probably enough. Also drove the audi q5, nice ride but sort of boring. We have an audi a4 avant and like that a lot more.

Problem may come down to price...we want both tech packages on the grand touring awd, which brings msrp over $33k. If it comes to it, I won't likely pay more than $30k for one, and that is probably going to be difficult from what I have seen of pricing. But more discussions to come, will likely drive the x3 as a last resort...Thanks again.

Thanks. I know people are paying less than $30k for gt tech, but I also want the other package (sensors, adaptive cruise, etc)..We'll see what happens.

Lack of memory seat is my number one complaint on CX-5 as Mazda does offer this feature in other market in the world. Mazda North American Operations are just trying to bring down the cost for NA market by eliminating many nice features. I paid $30K before TTL for a special ordered 2016 GT AWD with Tech Package back in February when it just came out. People are paying a lot less on the same trim level nowadays. Just check the sticky thread on this forum. Similar equipped Audi Q5 and BMW X3 will cost a lot more than $30K and their reliability is suspicious. CX-5 has the best handling among all CUV's. Although it may not be the most powerful, but its fuel efficiency shines. You can't have both ways, power engine and fuel efficiency.

Consumer Reports finds some newer cars burn too much oil and many models on Audi's, BMW's, and Subaru's are on the list.

Memory seat does not mean much to me, but others here have complained also.

Perhaps a "CONVENIENCE PACKAGE" is needed. such as:

Memory Seat,
Power Foot activated lift gate,
Power Folding Mirrors,
Rear Cooling vents,

How much would you pay for this package?

This "Convenience Package" is what I want! I'm willing to pay $800 extra for these features!

Mazda Radar Cruise Control、Smart Brake Support、Lane Departure Warning System、Distance Recognition Support System、High Beam Control are included in GT's optional i-ActivSense Package which is new to 2016 CX-5.

Apparently you guys have one driver for your CX-5. Each time I have to spend some time to find the optimal driving position before I can go. Especially I'm taller than my wife and I have to move the seat backward (very slowly too) first in order to get in without hitting something on my knee!

Does the passenger side front seat fold flat on the CX-5. It would be very handy for a few longer items that I carry often.

Apparently you guys have one driver for your CX-5. Each time I have to spend some time to find the optimal driving position before I can go. Especially I'm taller than my wife and I have to move the seat backward (very slowly too) first in order to get in without hitting something on my knee!

When I take my car to the car wash to get it washed and vacuumed, they are constantly changing my seat position, which which also means my mirrors are misaligned because I can never get it exactly to where it was before. I would love memory seats in my car, but that would also be a significant price increase. I remember reading somewhere that these features are included outside of the NA market because the prices are already so high that they need these features to stay competitive.

As far as bikes in the back, you can definitely fit them when the seats are folded down. Just be careful with the front seats, doors, and ceiling trim. I've got a couple of tire marks on my ceiling already. Luckily it's not cloth, so I won't have to worry about it tearing, I hope.

It doesn't fold flat, but you can remove the head rest, push the seat bottom all the way forward, and fold the seat back down pretty far. I managed to fit a 9ft Christmas tree in the car this way. The VW Tiguan has a flat folding front passenger seat on the lower trims, but then you'd be driving a VW...
