Plug Change

:
2010 Mazda 5 Sport
Just did first plug change at 95290 miles. Here are the old ones. Just a reminder of the roots of this engine as well.. 20150411_073917.webp20150411_073932.webp
Replaced with Denso ITV16TT plugs..

The difference in feel between old and new is hard to tell. I have a road trip next week though so I should see better gains then. Also had rad flush done and third trans fluid drain/fill done. Add in new tires earlier this week (whew!!) Shocks are next..seeing a little weeping on the rears...

Sounds like a familiar progression....

Have you done the front sway bar bushings yet? Doing this makes the front end feel like new again... $150 parts and labor at the dealer.

Cabin air filter?

I did front swaybar bushings by myself almost two years ago with factory parts and replaced the cabin filter round about the same time. I didn't have time to order the filter from Rock Auto for this weeks work. I'll get to that in a bit. The filter for the engine was in good shape so I didn't change that out.
Rear bushings are next and will probably do that when I do shocks. I have a clunk coming from the rear that I cannot track down and it is not predictable or consistent at all so that is irking me some. Also changed interior bulbs and license plate bulbs to LED today.
Stereo upgrades are next and if the seller still has them when I get some $$, some Miata wheels that look really nice and fit. I'll be keeping the car longer than I originally thought so it was time to put some $$ in and get it the way I want so I can continue to enjoy it.
I can say that the plug change has restored the low end torque. Used to be that in my town there are several gentle hills with a 25mph speed limit. Even at that speed the car is already in 4th gear and I would get light spark knock. Not anymore.

My experience with new plugs @ 60k gave similar results. You could tell the originals were eroded (larger gap). We had a slight miss at idle that went away completely.

I think you will be glad you kept it... Hard to find anything else with the versatility and fun to drive quotient like this Mazda5 has. (headshake

The rear shocks are very easy to do as long as nothing is rusty. I don't have experience with the rear bushings.(gah)

Upgrading the stereo will also bring some more enjoyment especially if your adding phone Bluetooth capabilities. (popcorn)

The Miata wheels are a good move, the lower weight is a big help.

Which tires did you end up getting put on>?

Why did you go with the ND plugs over NGK or other brand>?

I only wish I had gotten the manual! Rear bushings don't look to be too bad from what I've seen online so far. I currently use a Jabra Cruiser Bluetooth speakerphone now. I don't use my phone as a music player that much but the new HU I want will have Bluetooth. I previously had Falken Ziex tires which I liked but those went up in price so I went with the "GT Radial Champiro UHP1" from Discount Tire. The reviews are all over the map. They are a bit noisier than the Falkens were, but so far I'm cool with them. I'm really consistent and faithful about checking tire wear and pressure so we'll see. I wasn't willing to spend $13 per NGK for the top of the line ones, and just wanted something different from the G-Powers...
