don't overlook a fully loaded 2016 CX-5 Sport - SPORT vs TOURING comparison

Keep in mind that the 40/60 sport seats do not fold completely flat, so make sure you're OK with that.
I'm not sure if the 2016 Sport has the blind spot monitoring, but the blind spots are very large in these cars. Small sport cars can be completely hidden from view even if you do the shoulder check.

Huh, the 40/60 Sport seats don't fold flat?? How is it different from folding the 40/20/40 Touring & GT seats?
If that's the case, it would be an issue for me. I carry a lot of cargo and need it to be flat. In fact, my current Tribute seats are folded down flat 90% of the time.
As for the blind sport monitoring, I'm not sure if the "rear camera package" on the 16 Sport includes BSM or not.
All this info is having me inch back up to the Touring hehe ;)

Do yo guys in the US have different trim packages than in Canada? My Sport came with 2.5L, Blind Spot, Infotainment, Electronic brake and Nav is added by buying the SD nothing different between the 3 trims in terms of the electronics. Pretty big price difference here to move to the GT trim.

Most all the reviews I read before I purchased, the only real complaint was that the 2.0L was a little underpowered, so, I knew going in, the 2.5L was a must.

The 2016 you can indeed get the Sport with the 2.5 automatic in FWD or AWD.

Yet you cant get the 2.5 with a manual in the sport... Mazda really is digging there own hole by cutting more and more Manual options every single year.

Yes. Your options for the CX5 have always been quite different then here in the states. You could get a MTX CX5 in whatever color choice you want, and add leather. Both of those have never been a option for the CX5 here in the states. :(

You can't get the bigger 2.5 liter engine in the Sport only the 2.0. I owned a sport 2.0 for 1.5 years and now own a touring 2.5. Personally I think the upgrades in the Touring trim are worth it.

I own a 2015 Sport with the 2.5. You can get it but I think you have to get an auto trans and maybe AWD only.

Looked it up on Mazda website. You have to select AWD to get the 2.5 in the sport, which brings the price up to within a few hundred of a FWD touring.

Right. I need to replace an aging vehicle and I have held off purchasing the CX-5 for two releases waiting to see if there were any hopes for better optioned manual. The '16 MT-6 (US version) is a disappointment, I wish the Canadian options were available here.

I can live with the MT-6 2.0, I would just like better audio and the backup camera.

I have a '14 MT-6 2.0, and I'm about to install a backup camera. It doesn't actually seem like it will be very difficult based on the sorts of things other people have done:

For audio, I bought a bluetooth receiver for $50 that can pair with a couple of phones, etc. This was satisfactory for me because I prefer buttons to touch interfaces anyway, so I expect to be happier with my DIY install than I would have been with the factory camera + bluetooth. Plus in a couple of years if I want to upgrade or change things, it should be easy.

Same as me. Ive been wanting one since there original release. But the lack of options with a MTX trans and no AWD have kept me from purchasing. I got tired of waiting, and purchased a loaded AWD 13 CX9 last year. But still kinda want a mtx CX9. But the wait continues. :(

If I had to guess I have a feeling that next year the CX3 will have more Manual options and the CX5 will probably have none so they don't canabalize each others sales.

Does the Sport not have the Advanced keyless entry? I thought the key fobs were all the same.

Wish you were correct... "All 2016 CX-3s will be powered by Mazda’s 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder paired with a six-speed automatic. Although we lament the unavailability of a manual transmission..."

OP here just to follow-up. I just picked up the new 2016 CX-5 brochure. To answer some previous questions: Blind Spot Monitoring, Advanced Keyless Entry, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert all come standard on Touring. They aren't available on Sport even if you get the camera package.
I think I will be going with the Touring afterall. The fact that the Sport 60/40 seats don't lay completely flat is a deal-breaker for me, as I haul a ton of cargo and need a fully flat bed. Also after test driving the CX-5 I realize it does have some blindspot issues due to the rear beams. The BSM and RCTA safety features standard on the Touring will certainly come in handy to combat that problem for me.
