2015 CX5
I think Mazda is treating it's current CX5 owner with the crappiest Infotainment known to the auto industry. I got to go to the North American Auto show today.

What I really think I got my 2015 Model is a 2014 with a newer date on my tags. The 2016 is what they should have put out in the first place.

I called Mazda today to express my voice. The 2015 and earlier model will NEVER get TXT to work OK and the current system I think will be shut out of future updates due to the newer system.

THE FOR SALE SIGN goes up. I think I am headed back to HONDA. Their HondaLink is AWESOME. Why, it updates on it's own, no dealer involved to get the latest and greatest. It works to.

PS. I plan on filling a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission for false advertising.

So if I get your drift...infotainment is positively/absolutely the most important feature in automobiles today? Geesh; how times have changed!

Wow, what phone do you have as most android phones work, but apple's don't, which is not related to any Mazda issue as it is universal! Also I got back from a 300 mile trip today using navigation and iPod audio with my iPhone 6 with no issues. There are plenty worse systems such as fords link, a huge pos and that is why they are changing it and most likely not offering retrofits to current owners.

WOW...JUST WOW...

First of all...STOP TEXTING WHILE DRIVING...hands free or not...PLEASE...you are driving a 4000 lb weapon capable of mass destruction...but I digress...

So...you are moaning about not doing proper research...the infotainment issues have been WELL documented going back THREE YEARS...nothing has changed...same crappy system from 2013, 2014, and 2015...It would be funny if they finally fix the BTissue like a week after you take a huge depreciation hit. They probably won't, but who knows...

Which phone do you have? What carrier? What model? What OS? What revision of that OS? What BT standard...2.1? 3.0? 4.0LE? Confused, so are most infotainment makers...

Text DOES WORK. Works GREAT on my CX-5 and my Windows Phone 8.1. Cortana is fantastic. Makes Siri look and sound like the semi-retarded redheaded stepchild that she truly is. If you use the multitude of crappy android BT standards and various levels of jelly bean or whatever OS level you have and/or the truly criminal way Apple locks their BT from working well with ANYTHING they don't get approval to/from, and then even after that, update their iOS to break most older connections or established standards...then what is a infotainment designer to do?

So you want to buy a TRULY UGLY CUV, from a company that a has admitted to hiding/lying about more than 1700 crashes in their more current models by changing how they view fatalities and accidents, (fined $7 million, but are happy because that was the federal cap of fines), to try to make it seem like their tin can cars are more safe than they really are... AND...
YOU want to drive a C.V.T. transmission? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

congrats...you have admitted you hate driving and essentially only want a iPad on wheels...they still make the Toyota Prius V you know...

Ford's new Sync 3 is made by RIM/Blackberry...they almost dead Canadian phone maker...what could possibly go wrong with that with future support...

When I bought the Mazda CX-5 I had test driven a half dozen cars and studied many more (Reviews ETC) I never turned on the Infotainment in any of the cars. It just wasn't a factor. That's me. People have different priorities, If that is what is important to you then no problem. I wish you well. Perhaps someone will come out with a car that just has a big touch screen and a CPU and you can install any system you like. Another big screen in front of the driver would be good, with a menu to chose the gauges we want, slide them around, and set up the instruments as we wish.

Enjoy your next vehicle.

Clearly someone is surprised at how the ENTIRE auto industry works.

You mean like how the Tesla S dash is? We are slowly getting there...hell even the Dodge Dart is a fully digital gauge system, too bad it is in a Dodge Dart....

Guys....the point here is CUSTOMER SERVICE, NOT THE CAR. Anyone watching the Super Bowl. Lets say that you got this super new 60" flat tv on the wall. Just before game time, it would not get all the channels you were told it would and one of them was hosting the SB.

And I do have iphone. Here's the scoop on that, Mazda will not invest in apple's developers tools. A-dah, iPhone one of the largest phone out there and they don't support it. What other reason is there. If its they don't like it, tough, a lot of owners do.

I had Honda's and Toyota, all have their issues, but not to the point where your lied to when calling them.

HEY, CVT....MAZDA IS LOOKING AT THEM FOR FUTURE USE. GO RESEARCH IT.

oh I will say I love the Lexus line, but cant afford it.

We are not talking about future CVT use...TODAY when we buy cars...not TOMORROW...when we MAY buy our next car...if you are mad about future proofing...your best bet is to do short term leases...

I would have bought the CRV over the CX-5, but I have EYES and have standards I expect the car makers to follow, like not lying about KILLING PEOPLE and hiding it ...not about iPhone compatibility...
I would have bought the new Rogue, but the CVT was a deal killer, and Nissan has terrible reliability with their CVTs...
I would have bought a Subaru, but my wife didn't like the seats...
I would have bought a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, but will HOPEFULLY NEVER buy a car where the steering wheel is just a digital joystick...I live near HWY 1 in CA, and the 200 ft hight cliffs aren't forgiving if the car decides it doesn't want to turn left today...
I would have bought a Ford Escape, if I wanted to always hang out in the waiting room waiting for the 11 recalls to get done on a regular basis...
I would have bought a Chevy Volt, but it only seated 4...and was a bit too small...

So...that left the Mazda CX-5...it's been a great year of owning it. No recalls (minus the seat heater repair which was done with an oil change)...drives great...is a 5 star safe vehicle for my wife and baby...AWD works great...SCBS has saved my butt once already so has the BSLM...while the infotainment system and Bose is lacking...I fixed the sound with some speakers and the infotainment is a work in progress...but I don't make enough to trade in my CX-5 and lose thousands for texting while driving...

Mazda has nothing to do with the iPhone working. Apple refuses to enable MAP. I love my iPhone and was able to get it to work in my BMW, but guess what, it's way to dangerouse and distracting, so if I use it I only play the messages through the car and never try to answer them. The novelty wears off pretty quick. Lexus isn't much better as my neighbor had a new RX and complains about the NAV not finding destinations and not recording the distance accurately. Lexus is just an over padded toyota. Same engines and parts for 50% more money.

The infotainment issues with the cx5 were known for almost 3 years. I would suggest you research your new car next time before you buy. I did knowing the infotainment complaints, and still bought a great car because it's the best looking, best driving, non luxury SUV in its class.

The "pathetic" infotainment system is just a bargining point with the dealer. They hate folks that read...

I guess it's because I don't have an iPhone, but I really don't have a problem with the infotainment system with my Android phone. I'm usually listening to the radio, but bluetooth works well for me, connects right away, and 95% of the time recognizes the name I'm trying to call. When I'm not using the radio I just stream music from Spotify or Google Play and I have full control from my steering wheel to change tracks and have no issues. The last two rental cars I had were a Jeep Cherokee and Ford Mustang, and both were a lot worse. They wouldn't connect half the time to my phone and on the Ford there wasn't even a button to end the call. Friend of mine has a C300 and when I was in the car he was streaming bluetooth from his iPhone and every time he moved the phone or got a text the music would skip, maybe the phone, but this never happened in my car and we're talking about a much more expensive car. Grandmother has an ATS and I drive it from time to time and I have times the phone doesn't connect, and even had my phone lose connection in the middle of streaming audio and just never come back till I restarted the car.

Customer service I can't comment on as I haven't called to complain, but I don't know how much of the system Mazda does in house and how much is just OEM'd so not sure if they even have full control of the system. It could easily be dealer related, but my last car was a Subaru Impreza, and previous to that a Mazda 6, and the customer service with Mazda has been much better than Subaru. Do you have any other issues with their customer service or with the car, or purely related to your phone not working the way you'd hope with their head unit? I must admit that if the infotainment system was that important to me, and I felt there was something they could do but weren't (I'm not sure this is the case) I would probably be frustrated as well. However, unless there's other aspects with your car that they're not addressing I would think changing the head unit to anything aftermarket would be a lot easier than changing the entire car to get a better infotainment experience.

Please remember this SAME infortainment system is in the CX-9 and the Mazda6. So I think if Mazda can figure something out they will, but it will wind up costing a lot of money to them. Figure every people wants the BT module replaced, infotainment system reflashed or whatever...say it costs $500 in warranty money...times every car...that is all pure profit they will lose. This isn't a warranty issue either...

If they give us ANYTHING, I will be happy. Hell remove the lock when you are moving and I will be happy...

Someday, the media screen will be just that...and there will be some sort of computer that you can pull out, to upgrade or whatever...
The new Audis have this I believe. Every car will get the same system, and you can pay to unlock different levels of service...it makes it easy to upgrade, easy to install, easy to manage.

All that and I have heard in the next 5 years...all Car infotainment systems will be OTA update/upgradable...anytime you have to bring it in to the dealer, it costs the Manf. money.

Telsa already doesn OTA updates. Most cars will have this by next gen...figure 2017 or so...

My daughter has a Hyundai and it all works perfect. I thought she would have had more service issues, but she has be at the dealer 0 times in the last few months, while with my CX5 I have about 3-4.

1. Rattles
2. oil leak
3. Heated seats not getting that warm ( jury still out)
4. Navi (jury has left)

I agree, Nissan's CVT sucks in the industry. It is not reliable in warm climates. But I believe one of the high end car manufactures has perfected it with the proper cooling it needed bad that Nissan left out and also made the belt in the CVT less reactive to heat.

Dude your whining about the infotainment system has been taken to another level, just sell the damn car and be rid of it. If something bothered me so much I would have got rid of it right away.

Our 2013 CX-5 purchased in 2012 has been FLAWLESS! was a huge reason why I bought the 6. I'm sure recall ridden Honda or Ford will welcome you back with open arms, keep that wallet open :)
