iPhone 6 and the current setup

repairing was temporarily fixing it for me for awhile, but, now that I'm on v4.4.3, I can't get it to work at all.

I can say this, the iPhone 6 does not work in iPod mode where connected directly in the usb port. it will say, device not supported.

MAZDA REALLY NEED TO UPDATE THIS MEDIA SYSTEM NOW. My daughter cheap A$$ car works flawless with everything.

I had this problem last night, I had just got the phone was messing around with it before and figured I could just charge it in my cx-5 on the way to the movies, man was I wrong.
I tried everything. I know the bluetooth works fine and does a good job but as soon as I plugged my iphone 6 in nothing worked, I saw the iPod tab light up, clicked that and said error basically. But what I find strange is that the iPhone 6 prioritizes the usb cable over the bluetooth so I cannot charge and use bluetooth.

When I was doing this I was trying to use Waze navigation on my phone and did not hear one direction the entire drive, something is definitely not working

My iphone 5 running ios7 says "error" when I tap the ipod tab. I also have zero itunes music on my phone because I use spotify over bluetooth.

Did you plug the phone in before or after starting the car? With the iphone5 if you plug it in before, it will go into ipod mode EDIT: This actually seems to be fixed since sometime last year on my iphone 5 running ios7. Have you tried re-pairing the bluetooth or using a different cable?

Curious if anyone has updated their iphone 5 to ios8 and used it yet to determine whether its the os, iphone 6 hardware, or some combination. I'm thinking it's an OS issue, if nothing else.

My iPhone 5s is still connecting fine after upgrade.

Good to know. While we all love to complain about the cx-5's head unit, the only different factor here is the iphone 6. Other phones continue to work as they have. The software bug hunter in me would look at the iphone 6 as the source of the issue.

My iPhone 6 seems to work fine over bluetooth with my 2014 CX-5. It seemed like it took slightly longer to pair, but streaming music via bluetooth seems to work no differently than it did with my iPhone 5 running ios 7.x. It downloaded the phone book the first time only, resumes playing where the song left off, etc. I don't receive text messages, but I don't think that ever worked.

It may not be an iPhone issue, maybe the car's software is outdated. The phones keep getting updated, but the car's software is not.

It doesn't work this way. Bluetooth is a set of standards created by a panel of manufacturers. The commission sometimes create new standards for new functionality, but the old ones don't change. The car has a chipset and software that implements a subset of these standards that are relevant to it (such as audio streaming) and has, generally, worked very well with most compliant devices including older iphones.

The iphone 6 will have a newer bluetooth chipset, and it may have some newer standards supported, but it should still support the older without fail. Countless devices count on it from headphones to stereos to handsfree devices. No need to update the car.

This is an Apple issue, somewhere. The phone is barely 2 days in the public but reports are already coming in from all over the place if you google 'ios8 bluetooth issues'

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.0, 2014 CX-5, it works exactly the same way as my 5s does in the car. Only change : when holding dows the home button on the iPhone to ask Siri a question, the 5s would play the Siri tone (beep-beep) over the CX-5's speakers. The iPhone 6 doesn't, but still listens to my voice and works normally otherwise.

Many with car issues are reporting that this works for them:

Resetting the network settings on the iPhone under Settings > General > Reset Network Settings (note, this will forget your wifi networks and passwords)

Then unpair/delete any remaining bluetooth connections at the car and phone.

It sounds like there's a glitch when restoring your previous settings from itunes after upgrading the OS or device.

Well, got some bad news, I spoke to a nerdy dude from best buy and he says since apple will discontinue all iPods soon, that the new 6 does not support music from a usb port, just BT...wow that just hit me...how can they just stop this...he said apple want to be totally wireless by 2016 with all including charging..

The iphone6 supports USB audio, same as previous iphones.

I don't recommend getting tech support from nerdy dudes at best buy.

Just updated my iPhone 5S to iOS 8.0 and no longer able to use the iPod mode. When I select the iPod tab, I get the "reading iPod" message for about 20 seconds and then "iPod error". Worked fine with iOS 7.X. Hands free calling and streaming via BT and Pandora app still work fine though.

The iPhone 6 was made more flexible than any iPhone before it ...wait I meant bendable. Sorry, had to say it. ;-)
