What have you done to your MSP today?

went to the track for the first time yesterday. it was a free run. i had a lot of fun. didnt really know what i was doing at but learned a lot. road in a stock frs and miata which was awesome. started adjusting my dampers and doing laps to test the new settings but it started raining. booo.

It worries me that so many MSPs with relatively simply problems with simple solutions are being parted out like it's an 89 Chevy... I wish this would've been the case 4 or 5 years ago when I had the money to pick these up. I'd buy them to save them if nothing else. The titanium that's on the FB page for $1500obo... Really?

It's a matter of supply and demand. The demand for these are low and the supply is low as well. Its the unfortunate perfect remedy for extinction. I just dont understand why Mazdaspeed3's and Mazdaspeed6's are worth so much more besides the fact that they are newer and more powerful. I think Mazdaspeed Protege's should be valued more due to their rarity and they're super fun cars with a lil pep from the turbo.

isnt it also the first mazdaspeed car they made? that's what should make it an "icon" lolzzzzzzzzzz

Random question for those of you with forged engines. Did you reuse all your oem hardware or bought it new? I don't mean head bolts or things like that, I mean main bearing support plate bolts, oil pan bolts, transmission bolts, etc.

I reused all of said hardware. I did, however, use the MBSP bolts from another engine of mine that hadn't had been removed, installed, and torqued 502309 times do to spinning countless rod bearings. Other than that, though, it's all somewhat pointless.

I have a forged short block and spare head. I'm trying to assemble everything as to have as little downtime as possible. You wouldn't happen to know the size of the hardware for the oil pan and MBSP would you?

There are like 4 different lengths on the MBSP/Oil pan. Thread pitch is the same M8x1.25.

guys... Id really like to get these dampers for my msp but clearly they dont make them to fit... are there any other cars that have struts that are similar to the bj chassis?

http://www.tein.com/products/mono_sport.html

or are there any other full length adjustable dampers out there?

That's what Im saying! Like, these things should be legendary. The birth of the movement and the icon. I just don't get it. You think they'll be worth a pretty penny in the next 10-20 years?

Full coilovers? Yeah there are a bunch, Tein even makes some called Super Streets. BC, K Sport, Megan, yellowspeed, D2, Fortune 500, etc.

I know there are lots.of those kits but tje tein mono system has preload adjustment and shock body length. So you can lower your car adjustong shock body any not shock stroke and spring preload.
You can still tune the spring preload to adjust tweak ect but would be.nice to have dampers you can lower without changing ride quality.

Ps. I'm pretty sure mazdaspeed has been making performance parts for.mazda cars for much longer. This.is just the first car to wear a speed trim level in the us.
I think it would have been more popular if it was a nicer car. Take a top range es and drop the speed kit on it not a seemingly base model like this lol.

I'm really confused on what you're talking/asking about. On my K-sports I don't have to adjust preload or stroke length to change the ride height. The lower mount is what determines height. Which is what tein is showing in their ad. (uhm)

I think it would be worth something if: a) people actually knew what they were b) the platform was built on something that was actually a monster. ie the S204 version of the STI...

Alas it is not and therefore everyone thinks it's just a protege with a bodykit and a turbo... That leaves those few individuals that are in the know who realize how much of an afterthought this car really is...

The MSP will always be worth more in sentiment than dollars...

Yeah sometimes I question the engineers at Mazda. I would have done things differently, especially for the Mazdaspeed Protege. I always dreamt of being a car designer but it's super difficult and involves a lot of school.

If you check the link clever; the lower body of the shocj has a collar on it as well which let's you change the length of the sleeve that connects to the spindle. With thay, you can set preload however you like with the spring collar but ride height by making the bottom of the shock longer or shorter. You don't change the amount of preload nor do you compress the strut at static, reducing its overall travel and effectiveness.

not sure what this sound is, but i had been living i with it for a little while before taking the msp off the road. new exedy clutch in november that i had to keep adjusting my clutch rod. just like the old spec clutch. ill prob replace both cylinders when i put it back on the road.. but curious what ill find in there when i rip it all apart.

this weekend ill start to put her on blocks for a long stay. the struts are gonna go in my mx3 if i can make it work to give it some more low. id actually try to do a full five bolt swap to the mx3 but then id need to find an msp for parts or find a part out wher ei could get everything from the arms to the wheels heh.
we will see. if i do the swap ill definitely be looking for wheel spindles, hubs, calipers ect for msp.

finished rebuilding the front end of my mx3 though. pretty happy with the results for the cost of paint only.
