Mazda Paint

So I read where there are a lot of complaints on mazdas cheap paint.
I've had 30 plus cars..trucks..suvs and have NEVER seen this before!
Had the cx5 for a week now and waxed it yesterday. Not one imperfection in the paint..no dimples on or under the clear coat. None. I spent an extra 20 minutes or so just looking for one
Even the lexus had one or two on the hood.
I know I'll get stupid people door dings..road rock etc. But that's expected.
I don't know if mine is common for mazda or if I got lucky?

There's nothing wrong or unusual about Mazda paint jobs when compared to other mass-produced automobiles. Visit any auto forum on the internet and you get the same 3 "standard" complaints: Lousy "thin" paint jobs, crappy OE tires and poor stereos. I just ignore those posts.

Never said anything was wrong or unusual. Just never had a car with zero defects

My Soul Red paint job is full of orange peel. Particularly the rear quarter panels and rear doors. I remember my red 03 Mazda Protege 5 had the best paint jobs of all the cars I've owned which is quite a few. It seems Mazda's quality as far as paint has gone down hill imo.

I had a yellow Protege 5. Paint started to peel (yes, actually flake off!) after 2 or 3 years, and was rusted through after 4 years. All Protege 5 in my area were the same to varying degrees. Actually the worst paint job I ever saw ( compounded by really bad quality metal). Not too much orange peel, just peel...

Perhaps it might have to do with the cold winters or salt? I should not though. I owned my Protege 5 for 4 years and kept the paint clean and well waxed and always garaged and it held up well. No orange peel on mine at all.

Salt probably had a lot to do with it (but all cars have to call with that here). I also kept mine in a heated garage, which in my case probably accelerated the rusting, melting the salty ice and providing heat for the chemical reaction. I did keep it clean and waxed as much as possible though.

Despite everything I kept mine 11 years, was a pile of rust when I got my CX-5, but man I loved that car!

Like most sweeping generalizations about modern cars, not applicable.

Specifically the white paint on my CX-5 is very good and durable (over 2 years old now).

...as is my Sky Blue Mica after 1.5 years (of course keeping it in the garage where god intended it to be helps!)

Paint looked pretty good on my fresh new 2015 CX-5 in Blue Reflex Mica. Got rained on for the first time today. Automatic wipers work pretty well (once you have the switch set in the correct position).

I really love that color. I was in a bit of a rush and got a deal on a floor model or I probably would have held out for the Blue Reflex Mica. OTOH, I've noticed the the Meteor Grey Mica has some brown in it that looks really cool in certain light, so it's growing on me all the time.

I haven't had a chance to do a detailed clean/polish yet, but from fairly close inspection the paint appears to be pretty nice. We'll see how it holds up, I guess.

Almost bought the Blue reflex too, as I'm a "blue" kinda guy, but I don't like the blue reflex/ black interior combo. Now, if came optioned with sand leather...

Btw, my deep crystal blue has massive orange peel, more noticeable after a wash, clay, and wax

Any recommendations on fixing a small paint chip on one of the doors from what appears to be the cause of a "road rock"

I had a Protege for 9 years that never saw the inside of a garage. The black paint still looked great and no rust. I live in NJ.

You forgot "the car sucks because my IPOD does not..............................".

There is a world of difference between winters in NJ and those in Quebec. When you get your first flakes, we are usually hip deep. And, not seeing the inside of a garage actually helps for reasons I already mentionned. The problem was so bad here it was actually acknowledged by Mazda, they blamed it on bad steel. You litterally could not find a single P5 that was not rusted through. They extended their rust warrenty a few years to calm complaints. I actually got part of my car repainted for free outside of the normal warenty period because of this. A couple of years later it was just as bad as before.
