jasyatz build thread

The rear shocks are really good, but it was still cold so I couldn't really get every condition replicated. Wheelspin is exaggerated now, but turn in is fantastic as is overall mid corner and exit grip. Hint of push on exit, hint of overseer on entry. Pulled out all the fuses and around she went. So I'm able to get the balance I was looking for and retain the ABS.

The Tri Point bar and I have a love hate relationship. I love it, but it hates to be quiet. Creaks and clunks over every little imperfection. I'm going to try some of that Billy Mays gutter seal on the lower spring perches and see if that helps. Greasing it up will just make a gritty mess since the rear spring buckets are basically dirt traps.

I'm wondering if I can get the same feel with a different approach. Not till after the NJ Tour. And going to play with spring rates and see if that helps the wheelspin mid corner. It be great if we could turn off the yaw sensor and just keep the Traction control. The TCS program is quite good and that would fix a lot of the mid corner pedaling.

Video from 4/5 Event#2. Tried to use the old "pedal it and maybe it won't spin"...went around at 13 seconds..

4/6 Test and Tune Best run

There was a huge storm drain in the pavement I got the right front into at the 14 second mark, Luckily no harm done. I stayed tight after that.

Was it super cold or something? What is your setup now? I have never seen a 2 get that much wheelspin. Something seems off or it was really really cold.

Wheel spin is a huge issue for me as well. My rear springs are 475# with rear valved for 500#. Anytime i'm in a sweeper I light up the front inside wheel. I went from 600# springs front to disconnecting the sway bar I even went down to 375# front springs. Wheel spin is an issue. Doesnt matter if its 55 degrees or 85 degrees. ! light up the inside front regardless.

0 front toe, -3.25 camber, 15x7 205/50 R15 wheels. Ive also had 15x7.5 225/45 R15 Rivals on and no difference. I need two things. A diff and it to be legal in STF. :)

Jeff thinks since my rear shocks are for B-Spec Fiesta's the rebound is set much higher which keeps he weight off the front. I'm not completely sold on that but it is a possibility.

Possibly. I am thinking it is largely because of the camber. I have just never seen that much wheelspin in a 2 from watching other videos and mine isn't that bad either.

I had same wheel spin with -1.75 and -2 degrees of camber. in a straight line i get no wheelspin unless i dump it. in a corner the inside wheel lights up. If i can figure out a way to harness it itll take 3/10ths out of my runs easy.

Very strange. I have -2.5 degrees, stock pss coilovers and my rear bar. Even with my street 185 ZE-912's I don't get wheelspin even close to that. What are you using for sway bars? The only other thing I can think of is the damping being off, but it seems strange to be that far off. Then again the bilstiens on the spec Miata's are terrible.

right now m setup is Ford Fiesta B-Spec kit with 350# Front and 475# rear. the kit came with 450# front and 500# rear springs. Front bar is stock, 3.25 degrees of camber, 0 Toe. Rear bar is Tripoint which Jeff posted images. I am on 15x7 SSR Type C wheels with 205/50 15 tires. I also have the AWR mount with 87 Duro. Thats my setup at the moment.

I've got the stock PSS with 450s in front, stock rear springs with an alternative shocks in the rear. Up front -3.0 camber with an extra 0.6 caster dialed in via some custom upper mounts I made. Wheel spin has always been an issue, even with the stock front springs and only -2.0 in camber. Maybe it's the rear bar? I'm trying a few things after the Tour, but the car is a monster at turn in, and rotates very nicely now it just wont come off the corners. The Rivals do have sone runs on them, but in no way are they tired yet. I'm afraid to play with it and wreck it, but if I could get the power down mid corner, would be downright fantastic.

And whether it's me or the car or both, it is absolutely awesome in the rain..The rear shocks made all the difference. I'll let you know what they are in 2 weeks.

A local snapped some pics of my and Rich's ca last event, love to post them but the Mazda247 app got deleted off my iPad and can upload pics without it. Any suggestions for in thread posting? What sites does this site allow? Flikr won't work, or I'm doing it wrong.

Photobucket is what I have used. Once you upload an image it gives you lines of code below the image that you can use to post here. Specifically, you want to use the code for the "IMG" option, not the "HTML" option. Good luck!

Thanks fr the help, the videos are on page 3, forgot I uploaded them.

Crazy thing is at the test and tune, we got something like 20 runs. Extreme and I swapped cars for 2 runs, and that's when these pics were taken
This is Rich in my car. He took the short line.

And me in his..I took the wide line to get on the backside of the next gate which was the entrance gate to the optional slalom.

These 2 pictures got me rethinking the rer end of the car. Right after the NJ Tour, testing begins. (again)

Forgot to mention...5-60mph is around 9.45 seconds now. Car is 2484 with full tank and me in it. I'm in at 208lbs that day(after a really nice 1st vacation day lunch). Has stock header and exhaust, RB Muffler. Stock seats.

So the car "can" be 2228 in race trim by reducing fuel(without me) ..I refuse to sacrifice daily comfort to save another 140 or so lbs. Has almost a perfect 50/50 corner balance, It will if I swap battery. LF is heaviest corner by 55 lbs.

I may put a battery in it, and search for some decent seats, but can't say I'm going balls out on the exhaust. I'll remove the resonator, or bend up a mid pipe, but I'm nt ditching the muffler on the street. If I can coin up, I'll do a nice V Band flange so I can swap out the muffler at events, but that will be next years cash.

Details next week after the Tour, I'll start an NJ Tour thread with updates and results.

The 2014 NJ National Tour is over. Car went 1-2 and although I would have liked to be in P1, I got upped by a very skilled and talented driver on day 2.

Car setup for the event:
Front:
Bilstein Autocross kit front shocks with 450# front springs, Ingals camber bolts, Ford Focus fixed camber/caster correction plates, with a total of -3.3 camber, 4.5 caster and 1/8" toe out.

Rear:
Ford Focus SVT KYB AGX rear shocks with custom bump stops(made by me), Tri Point rear brace, Custom (GM) rear swaybar( 1/2" bar stock), stock Bilstein Autocross rear springs.

Racing beat muffler, stock header an mid pipe, Dynotronics Tune,
205/50/15 Rivals n TRM Motorsports 15x7.5 wheels ET42.

Window Weld rear motor mount.

Car is very neutral but needs a touch more front spring and compression/rebound to keep from porpoising in the bumpy stuff. otherwise, I'm really happy with it. Thinking about lengthening the rear bump stops to load up the rear in hard corners hopefully minimizing wheelspin.
