CX-5 Vibration at certain speeds

I just bought a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring in January 2014 and had a similar issue. From the fist day I got the car, there was a vibration when I exceeded 45 mph and worsened as my speed increased. I took my CX-5 back to the dealership within two weeks of purchasing it. The service manager indicted that they road tested the car and rebalanced some tires. When I drove the car home, the same vibration occurred, so I called the service department and complained. The service manager asked me to bring the car back and they would preform a "force test" on all 4 tires and rims to see if they can find out what is going on. Well, once this "force test" was done, 3 of my 4 brand new tires were out of spec. and needed to be replaced. Since I only have 325 miles on the vehicle, Mazda gave me 4 new tires. I pick the car up tomorrow (3/3/14). Hopefully that fixes the problem.

Conclusion: If you buy a new Mazda and you experience a vibration when you are going over 40 mph the tire(s) are either out of balance or are probably bad. Bring the car in for service and demand a "force balance test" of all the tires and rims.

Outcome from Dealership (3/3/14): The problem was resolved with 4 new tires from Mazda's manufacturer. Make sure you have your service department perform a FORCE BALANCE TEST on both the tires and the wheel rims. The service department will compare the results of these tests with specs they have from Mazda Corporate. If any of the tires or rims are out of spec. they need to be replaced.

I recall reading a few months ago about Mazda replacing some of the Toyos for issues. What's the build date of your vehicle?

I'd be more curious to know the number immediately following the E in your VIN (it'll be 0 or 1). That tells what manufacturing line it came from. 0 = Hiroshima and 1 = Hofu. I had a VW where the owners traced that the ones manufactured in Germany were better than the ones produced in Bratislava (both imported to the US/North America.)

My 2014.5 GT vin number is 0 (zero). The paper work also indicates Hiroshima--as did my former 2014 CX-5 touring that I traded in.

P.S. I see that Toyota has a sale on, but indicates their 2014.5's are NOT included. Any other car company's with 2014.5 so far?.

As I stated my problem starts at 32 MPH and goes to 40 MPH, speed under and over those are fine. Please let me know if it fixes your problem, I will be anxious to see the results....Thanks!

Yes,I saw it, very interesting indeed. It's a show that stated here back in the 60's on Maryland P.B.S. (Public Broadcasting Station).. and now also shown on the cable channel Velocity.

Have you checked the tire pressure? Also OEM tires aren't the best.

Checked the tires yesterday, amazed, they all are at 36 PSI. (so much for 'over inflation'). Car has been sitting for a few days, in the cold.

hi guys,
this is my first post. Just picked up a 2014 GT last weekend (19k miles on it). Haven't even registered it yet! I love it but it seems to vibrate from 65-80ish. I did a quick google search and the amount of people with issues is disconcerting. Is there a "cure" for this? Was there a singular issue causing it? I already talked to the dealership about a balance and alignment but it seems like this only helped a few people.

Initially it was a bad tire which the dealership replaced, but now I have a vibration in the floorboard and front seats at various mphs. Brought the car to the dealership where I bought it and they claim that it is the All Wheel Drive system that is causing the problem and there is nothing that can be done. The same issue occurs with the 2015 CX-5 AWD vehicles. The dealership spoke to Mazda Corp. Headquarters and they are aware of the problem, but won't outright admit to knowing what is causing it. I'm contacting a lemon law firm to deal with this issue. Love the car, but can't tolerate the vibration.

I have not experienced that issue, read many posts nor seen a TSB. It does not appear to be a common issue.

If I were you I'd go around the dealer and deal with Mazda US direct. Something is definitely wrong with this picture and I suspect the dealer is part of the problem.

Hi All,

I too have a vibration that comes through my brand new 2015 Mazda CX-5 GT AWD. Leased Nov.15th and back at the dealership 2 days later. On the highway every time you go above 60mph the car would vibrate and you can feel the vibration through the seats and steering wheel. Took it back to the dealer and they stated the tires needed to be road force balanced. They did the balancing and gave it back to me. It was better as I drove it home. Unfortunately did not take it on the highway until this weekend and the vibration is still there although not as bad. Took it back to the dealer this weekend and advised them I am not taking the car back until there is no vibration. The car only has 600 miles on it and I was coming from a 2014 Mazda 6 GT which drove like a dream on the highway. I called Mazda corporate this morning and also put in a complaint. I am hoping it can be fixed if not I will demand a replacement. Anyone have any thoughts?

ok mine ended up being the tires. They changed out the toyos for goodyear assurance along with balance, and alignment. I just picked up the car and drove it 35 miles back to my office and it drives great.
No more vibrating on highway over 60. I had the car over 80mph a couple times and it was great. I actually like the ride better on the new tires than the toyos. My recommendation is take it back to the dealer tell them the issue and you can even show them this forum. The service manager told me he thinks there is bad batch of toyo tires out there because when they drove one on the lot similar to mine it vibrated also. That is the reason he wanted different tires for my car.

Hi, been a while since i posted here,..so let me update you, I upgraded to the 2016 CX-5 AWD GT the car is a great improvement --especially the GPS/info package, and quietness. But be aware, i tested 2 2016 and both had severe vibration --so i tested the one i wanted to buy that was on the showroom floor..well it was in the warmth -where the 1st one had been sitting outside in the cold. I bought the showroom car and put over 100 miles on it ..and guess what...the vibration was worse then the other 2016 i tested. I called the service manager who drove it with me as passenger...and admitted it was worse then any car they had ever had. So after 1 hour, the service manger told me that "all 4 tires had flat spots" and they could not get them balanced --they called Mazda, and 4 new tires are on their way. Service manager said the car may had been tied down too tight on the boat/shipping and that probably caused the problem. I am going to the dealer Monday March 9 to have the new tires put on. The also tested the wheels and alignment --all were OK...so if you test drive one and it feels like a tire is flat! it is. B.T.W the condition occurred at speeds from 20 MPH to 60 MPH.
