Top 5 Reasons NOT to Buy a CX-5

Don't forget that when its cold, your dashboard will creak and groan, especially near the A pillars - this is actually a safety feature meant to keep you awake while driving.

Ok, that was actually pretty funny!!

Why would someone use the TomTom GPS in the first place ? Use Google Navigator instead. It is always accurate and up-to-date.

#1 Privacy: Google stuff is all free and glorious but look at the info they gather from you.

The TomTom unit in the CX-5 is fine. You can opt out of the sharing of info completely. It displays what I need it to plus more; traffic, gas, POIs, rest stops (we do a lot of driving across BC/AB in the summer). You can customize the look by downloading map colors and icons. Ironically, I have used a color theme that looks like Google Maps as they do have a nice appearance.

#1 for the OP: the reason not to get a CX-5 is if you can afford a CX-9, why not? ...nah, I'd still get the CX-5 ;) ...but if they brought the Mazda 8 (aka MPV) then I'd have got that instead! Damn NA marketing teams....

* sigh *

The thread was meant to be a tongue in cheek joke, because in my opinion the CX-5 is a great car to buy. (yes)

Another reason NOT to buy is the great economy.

I miss visiting the gas/petrol* station so often. I do miss it when asked , do you want to buy some special offer chocolate/candy* at the counter.

* - delete as appropriate.

I really wish they'd get the diesel option the UK and European countries have. The 2.2 liter two-stage turbocharged diesel 173 bhp and 310 lb ft. would be great!

Search for Google search history and use the settings to turn it off, if you are so inclined.
Google Maps is superior.

Then I have to use my phone and buy an ugly dash unit to hold it in place with a power cord dangling across the dash controls. Phone has a smaller screen as well. Nowhere near as convenient as hitting a NAV button. Yes, the GMaps are superior (updates are frequent and 'free') the device adaptation into the car is not.

As for Google, I unlocked and rooted my Nexus 4 and use CyanogenMod 11 without GApps, I manually install the few apps I need. :)

Agreed. I thought it was very funny, but the thread seems to have tumbled into an ordinary boring & sensible one.

I hate it when people don't focus on driving and turn their heads when my cx5 passes by. Its a big safety concern you know..!!

I'm jealous of Rav4 drivers because they get to look at my CX-5 but I have to look at their Rav4.

1. The CX-5 is TOO MUCH fun to drive.
2. You like stopping more often to buy gasoline.
3. You miss hearing people to make comments on how ugly your car is.
4. Copy of the comment about RAV 4 drivers (hehe)
5. You would much prefer to drive a jet fighter to work.

My Top 5 (compared to my former Nissan Titan)

1. Because I used to get 12 mpg with the Titan I got to stop at the QuickTrip more often as an excuse to buy a 32oz frozen drink. (brain freeze with your favorite mixed flavors while drive is far worse than texting)

2. Because I had four recalls on the Titan I got to know the young lady at the corporate Nissan recall department. She sure was nice to talk to even though they never did honor the last recall notice card they sent to me. It's been kind of quiet with the Mazda not having to call or take it in to the dealership. Maybe I should have got that Forester.

3. The Mazda CX-5 just looks so good to me that I am compelled to spend an entire Saturday rubbing her down with a clay bar and sealant. That Titan did not beg for as much of my attention so I had more free time on Saturday to goof around.

4. Coworkers are now volunteering for me to be the driver to the lunch spot. I hate it! No one ever asked this when I had the Titan even though it could seat as many.

5. I hate having a quieter interior. That Titan's stock performance exhaust with the V8 rumbling all the time was so enjoyable (more sarcasm)

It is only a question of time before someone come with a decent headunit that you can miracast your phone to it.

O.k now the grim part

We all love our Cx-5 .. but the secondary market thing otherwise . CX-5 , which I bought for life (ha ha) is terribly priced in secondary markets compared to Rav 4's etc. Thoughts! Mazda's are really reliable cars in general . So , What am I missing ?(sun)

1. 87 Grade gas goes a long way compare to my previous car for its size
2. You don't need to think about how much will you spend when filling up gas:)
3. You can't believe an SUV can hit 350+miles per gas fill up. (city/highway)
4. Almost every car that passes you.. 7/10 of them looks at your car
5. The car looks awesome!

the ones available in the secondary market, in my area at least, are mainly the smaller engine ones that got a lot of bad reviews for being underpowered. this brings the average price down.
