Hi from Houston, TX. I'm new to the site. I have an 2004 Mazda 3 hatchback that want to trade in for the 5. I like the GT in silver with the black leather seats. Looking to buy the car in the next few days. Local dealer offered $24k drive out price for a 2013 demo with 1800 miles on it. Seems high when other local dealers are offering $25 for a 2014. Thoughts?

I didn't shop GT's, but when I was shopping for my Sport I found the same situation - dealers with crack pipe prices for a used 2012, when I could get a new 2013 for less than $1k more. In your case, they should be trying even harder to move a 2013 unit now that the 2014s are on the lot, IMO.

ridiculous. my brand new 10mi '13GT picked up in December was < $21K+TTL. I assume TX taxes are cheaper than where I am, so I can't imagine paying more than $22K for a thrashed "used" car.

I just bought a Certified Pre-Owned 2013 Mazda5 Sport with 29k miles for $16,292 ($17,776 after tax). Thoughts?

Truecar is showing new '13 M5S at $17300 (in my area). And there are still quite a few '13s remaining. So it looks like you saved $1K+tax for a car with 29K. the CPO warranty is only 1 year/12K mi in addition to your orig. warranty, so I believe that means you have 19K of warranty? CPO was offering 0.9% financing, which is basically free money, so that's kinda cool. OTOH, Penfed just offered me 0.75% on a new car.

YMMV.

Geez, new car loan rates are just stupid cheap, it really is like free money. I really thought it couldn't get much lower than the 1.4% I got back in October 2013, but apparently I was wrong. A 48 month, $20k loan at 0.75% only "costs" $308 over the life of the loan!

Right? And o, I just double checked, it was 0.74%. (headbang)

Checking penfed this morning (all the car sales pimps apparently finance thru them) yields 0% (36MO) when you go thru carfax (which I did). So it isn't "like" free money, it's literally free money. apparently truecar is asking for something like $300+ from dealers for every car they refer, and assumin 50/50 split, penfed is ok making $50/year? (shrug)

now only if porsche loans are this cheap...

Geez, I feel like I got screwed on my interest rate. I'm @ 1.99. I paid 19500 out the door for my new 2012 gt w/ an extended warranty. (Dealer was asking 24900)

^ ACK! 19500 OTD, including Ca TTL? Uhhh, I would've taken that price over my interest rate. HTF did you manage that? I thought I did pretty well..

Well, it's a long story. In short I cought the salesman in a lie while I was in the middle of signing that ended up with me tearing up my down payment check and walking out plus it was the last 2012 they had on the lot. I'm pretty sure they lost a little and the salesman was fired.

I think we need to hear the long version of that story...

What really happened:

I don't have a Mazda dealer anywhere closer than a 2 1/2 hour drive from me. I knew Ford used to take care of Mazda warranty work and I had asked if they still did it knowing that they dont. The salesman told me that they did indeed still do it. I made sure the salesman knew that was important to me because of the long trip to the dealership. At this point I had already made two trips and long drives to check out the car. We worked out a deal over the phone and I came back to sign the papers and pick the car. The salesman dicked me around with a different price and I had to renegotiate the original cost we agreed on in the first place.

I went to legal to sign the papers and asked them if Ford would still honor warranty work. They said I don't know and got the sales manager involved. Sales manager comes in and says no, I don't know where the salesman got that idea.

At that point I put on the I'm furious act. Rip up the check I just made out for the down payment and walk out and get into my car and drive off.

about ten minutes later the salesman calls me and comes back with a new deal and a apology. I return and ask for an extended warranty that wouldn't cover a free rental incase I have the leave the car them and the sales manager agreed.

I'm probably fun to go shopping with.

Since, I am broke and my wife excepting another child my 2009 honda civic was just to small for my growing family. I found a Subaru dealership in Ferndale, Michigan which is about an hour away from where I was living. That was selling 2010 Mica Blue Mazda 5 Sport for 8500 dollars with 65k Miles on it. The Mazada ran fine other then a rear rattle every time I hit a bump and dog hair on all the seats which is a pain to clean off. Lets see out the door it I think I paid 2300 for the car.
