nice choice of wheels ! looks great
Yeah, pretty good wheels for "new" from the dealer.
Going to install RX8 wheels on my Galaxy Grey Mica Mazda and I'm trying to decide between bright white and silver, leaning towards the white. Given the car's color, I think the white would look better. What do you think? Cleaning is not an issue for me.![]()
Ok. So it's just really clean and the bright sun light make it look brighter. Seems most folks like it!
Do you want subtle or loud and be seen?Going to install RX8 wheels on my Galaxy Grey Mica Mazda and I'm trying to decide between bright white and silver, leaning towards the white. Given the car's color, I think the white would look better. What do you think? Cleaning is not an issue for me.![]()
-Silver is playing it safe but too boring and the rims will blend too much with the car.
-White would be nice if you want to be seen. I can’t image cleaning it
-Black is a nice sleeper/racer look especially since the spokes on the RX8 rims are narrow so you see thru them.
-Bronze/Copper/Orange would also look nice on Gray. Google the Gray color wheel to see what color compliment it.
Btw, how are you getting it painted?
Sounds good! Look forward to seeing pics. As along as you don't mind cleanig it, white is nice. I am a big fan of the 1st gen RX8 wheels on the Mz5. I think the lines match the body very well. I am asking how you were getting them done bc I've done a set via stripping, sand, prime, paint, clear coat and it still could not endure the change in elements. PC or oven baking seems to be the only way to make it last. Maybe I didn't do it right. Anyhow, glad to hear they are getting PC'ed.![]()
I did check out the color wheel, thanks! It pretty much went along the same lines that I was thinking. Even the Robin's Egg blue looks good. But I figured If I stay a neutral, I may keep the color longer. I have 5 wheels, one is really bad as far as curbage, two are slight and two have none. So I plan to acetone, prime and paint the worst one with DupliColor white, put a tire on it and see how I like it on the vehicle. If I do, I will send the other 4 to be powdercoated white down the street from me. I don't think it will be overpowering based on the relatively small wheel and the large body of the 5. Otherwise, it looks like bright silver for me. Its $60 per wheel to PC.

Here's an absurd idea. Why not do two colors? You will never see more than one side (two wheels) at a time. Not sure I'd do it![]()
quick question:
RX* wheels with 225/45/18's
The 2008 5 is stock height.
Any issues?? Rubbing or anything?
Thanks
I used wheel paint. The issue is not flaking off. Rather, the clear coat started cracking once winter came around. I guest this might not be an issue in warmer/dry climate.?. Also, the adhesion near the lug nut hole is terrible. When you put a lug on/off, it seem to rip it off as if there's no adhesion. Oh well, it was a good learning experience but a waste of time and moneyYeah, I would really hate to do all that work only to have it flake off. Did you use wheel paint or engine paint? Besides, 2 wheels can really benefit from a little sandblasting that they would do before powdercoating. The two color thing is too way out for me. Even though the younger guys were running two different wheels like that. Not a fan.
