A few racing questions

I just had a few questions.

What Steering Wheel Hub Adapter are people using on the mazda 2 ?

Any good options out there for a new pedal set ? To be honest I am just looking to widen the gas pedal but I dont mind replacing all the pedal's if the cost isn't crazy

Is this the best option for mounting a aftermarket seat http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/show...DE-MOUNTS-Planted-Technology-Font-Motorsports ? I did see sparco is selling seat bases now as well http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/61-0898.html

Thanks :)

If you search this forum about 5 to 6 months ago I posted photos of a lightweight battery install, brackets to remove the lower air box and carbon fiber plates to widen the pedals, I am still adjusting the shape and height of the brake pedal but throttle extension remains as in photo. Will post photos of finished brake pedal.

The hub I used was for a Ford Mustang, it has the hex shaped piece for the steering shaft. I also went with a NRG quick release adapter.

Anybody rocking the b-spec abs module ? http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=22542

and for the b-spec racers out there where can I get the number decal for the side door. I like the look of the race one

I would call up ford and ask them if they have tried one in a Mazda 2 or not. The nice thing about the Mazda 2 is you can disable the DCS and keep the ABS (I find this a good thing on the track). If they can get you the engineering # off the module they use I can look at our shop Mazda 2 and see if it is the same.

Big thanks for the hub adapter!! So 05 and up mustang or ford focus should do the trick.

So the t/c button on the mazda 2 dask will disable t/c and DSC ? I was under the impression DSC was still on and you had to pull a fuse on the DSC system but if you did that you also lost abs and ebd hence the b spec abs part. But I am new to all this so may be wrong.

On the track with the button pressed the DSC does not engage that I have experienced. I have made the mistake of forgetting to turn it off on time and it kills the power like no tomorrow out on the track.

Might be a auto x thing then. Thanks for all your help

Andy Hollis has some good writeups here if you care to search some. On my experience, there are two levels of DSC one that you shut off with the button and a secondary one. During track days I found that the secodary never intruded with proper trailbraking. During Autocross the secondary occasionally intrudes if you are very quick on transitions where you multiply the moment(think impulse and momentum) by juking the car from one side to the other very quickly. That being said, pulling the DSC fuse kills the system and it leaves the ABS intact. The Ford Fiesta, is a bit different in that if you pull the DSC computer you also loose ABS which is why a different. unit is made available for B-Spec racing for the Ford.
Hope this helps some.

I have read everything andy posted but I was confused as to if I lost the ABS or not so... your post was very helpful!!!! thank you very much. I will be pulling that fuse :) just to keep everything under one roof this is what he posted. After reading what you wrote I can see why the fiesta has that fancy b spec ABS module lol. Thanks again

"Over the weekend we tested with the DSC/ABS fuse (30amp) pulled to see if it would help with the ice mode issues we've had when braking while a rear wheel is off the ground. In short, it works for that. But it also makes the car more unstable in aggressive transitions. Probably due to the EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) being off-line. This will take some learning, so it feels like something to play with more in the off-season. For now, we've gone back to running with just the DSC switched off on the dash and trying to brake in a straight line." - Andy Hollis

"The Fiesta has a different setup, w/o a DSC switch. So they pretty much *had* to do this. With the 2, you have the option of simply switching off DSC, and leaving ABS & EBD engaged. Note that for B Spec road racing, the Fiesta gets a modified ABS module. Not legal in STF, but probably the best of all worlds." - Andy Hollis

I was thinking about the DSC and I don't remember it every engaging on the track and I have given it plenty of opportunities going off the track of dodging things. I have gone agricultural with all 4 wheels (like way off the track) and kept it floored to get back on the track and it never triggered then either. I was thinking it might be from the slicks, rarely do you ever break traction but the off roading should have not made them a factor.

Another good way to disable ABS is to accidentally knock the alternator plug out, lol

When the car gets to low voltage all sorts of stuff turns off and on at random times.

I sense a story to go along with that?

The kill switch we use is one of the fire river units which allow you to run a separate kill for the alternator. I had some "help" when finishing up the car and the plug got knocked loose from the back of the switch. It looked plugged in but it wasn't. I ran an entire weekend at the track and the last session the ABS just stopped working completely along with anything ancillary like power steering. The car never skipped a beat running though which makes me wonder if there are some logic circuits built in to let you limp home if you lose the charge system.
