3 Turn Signal Flash Option Under Vehicle Settings

Again, while playing around in the Vehicle options, under lighting, I found an option to turn on/off 3 flash turn signal.

What is this? Sounds rather obvious but I've turned this on and off with no change to my turn signals.

Any ideas?

If you move the turn signal bar down (or up) without actually latching it, the turns signals will flash three times and then switch off. Useful and easy for lane changes.

This has been common in cars in Europe for many years, but haven't seen it much over here (US) yet.

I discovered this awhile back and activated it. I use it all the time now, although it can be a bit tricky sometimes to not engage the signal all the way.

Good to know. Like I said I turned it but never saw a change in the signal. I'll have to try it today. I'm on the highways alot so this seems like you said useful.

Thanks!

It's referred to as Smart Turn in your owner's manual. Page 4-61.

Lane-Change Signals

(Without Smart Turn)
Move the lever slightly toward the direction of the change ―until the indicator flashes― and hold it there. It will return to the off position when released.

(With Smart Turn)
To signal a lane change, press the turn signal lever up or down halfway and release. After releasing the lever, the turn signal indicator flashes three times.

I have this on my bimmer so I was happy to enable this on my wife's cx5. Great feature.

I hated this feature. When I would use this feature it was confusing I would press the arm up and hold it until I finished changing lanes then it would continue to flash.
I would then move the arm the other way and it flashed 3 time the other way.

Weird, doesn't happen to my 2014. If I hold it there and let go, it stops. It only flashes 3 times by it self if I quickly tap it and let go.

As nxt stated it works perfectly up or down, but you only need to give it a very slight soft tap.

What happens if you move the lever fully and manually and move it back to the neutral position?
I will have to try this option again to verify why I did not like it.
I will give it another try.

It'll operate like any other turn signal. It'll turn off after you move it back from full up/down to neutral/center. The one tap 3 blinks is for lane changes. I luv it. I forget on Mondays in my speed6 after driving wife's CX-5 on the weekend.

I think that is what I did not like. Once you activate the "3 flash Lane change" flash how do you cancel it?
Since the lever is already in the center position. I think I would naturally push it in the opposite direction like on a regular turn signal and start the 3-Flashes in the opposite direction.
Probably just need to get use to it so I do not over correct the signal.

Uh. you slightly push on the direction you want to go and let go, it will flash 3 times and stop. That's it. You don't need to push anything else.
