The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I'm a bad son. I have no idea what to get my old man this year either. Already got him some accessories for his new Remington 870. Still hasn't used his round of golf I got him last year.

Grandkid?

Went to Loudington, MI to their state park a couple years ago. Great park with lots of trails and sand dunes, not exspensive to camp there at all. Takes most of the day to get there though.

Indiana is the home of the Air Stream Camper, the best looking IMO. And used to be home of Studebaker & Auburn cars.

I thought Jackson Center, Ohio was the home of AirStream Campers. At least that's what the Village of Jackson Center claims.

Heh, which tool do you need now?

It's called an "Adjust Gage" (49 B043 001) and it's used for setting the brake booster pushrod to master cylinder piston clearance. I made my own tool last night that would work if it weren't for the fact the booster has to be sealed in order to apply any vacuum to it.

Basically if the clearance is too high - excessive pedal travel. If too low - brakes will drag. I tried using my spare MC with a little grease on the end of the booster rod to show if contact was made. Even with the booster pushrod adjusted all the way in I was still getting contact so I'm wondering if I'm not doing something right.

Yep, that guy. The concept is simple but as you can see it also seals the booster like a MC would. I contempated turning my old MC into a tool but I couldn't think of a way to do it without losing the seal.

Do you have a spare pedal assembly? It looks simple enough, but hard enough to replicate that it's almost not worth trying

First buddy I was sure would have it if anyone had one sitting around "I don't even know what that is". Haha!
I can call a buddy at a Mazda Dealership if you want, but I doubt it will be cheap.

Yeah, I don't really want to buy one because I'm sure it'll fall into the "tools I'll only use once" category. My last resort is calling dealership service shops asking if they'll rent the tool.

I actually just found a '93 929 FSM online and oddly enough it calls for a different SST, 49-F043-001, which is the same used for the N/A boosters on the RX-7's even though the 929 booster is more similar to the TII booster. It's a much simpler tool, and pretty much exactly what I made last night. I couldn't build pressure in the booster with it so I wonder if the FSM I found is incorrect or if I was simply just doing it wrong. I guess I'll check tonight with my old N/A booster.

Yea, i completely understand that. Post up on RCC about it and your issues. Ted should have some resolve, he always does.

**** that. Hell, That should tied me over for birthdays, Father's Day and Christmas for 18 years.

FTFY haha

and im giving my dad a place to stay all weekend and letting him help me rehab the kitchen in the new house this weekend... funny thing is he and my mother seem genuinely excited to come see my house and help me work on it haha. ill probably get him a nice cigar and good case of beer, and try to find time to wash and wax his truck (since i borrowed it this week to move)

Yeah, I posted in my brake issues thread since I appear to have worked out the air issue. I'm not sure I follow his comment about the larger MC requiring more pedal travel though, haha. Hopefully someone will chime in. I looked at the RX-7 FSM again and it looks like even for the N/A booster there's another piece that seals the booster even though there's no mention of it in the tools list.

I'll look through the FSM at lunch some more and see if I can figure something out. While the FSMs have so much detail, sometimes there are huge gaps in information. Drives me nuts.
