The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Another good point, properly adjusted side mirrors. It took me a while to get used to my mirrors maxed out to the sides but I don't have blind spots anymore, but I still physically check before lane changes.

A good article to proper side mirrors;

That's a good article about the mirrors. In NASA HPDE, "properly adjusted mirrors" is one of the things they rate you on. Newer cars are coming with those blind spot indicators. If people knew how to adjust their mirrors, there wouldn't be a blind spot.

Also, here's something to think of....they're called "side view mirrors." They aren't called "rear view mirrors".

Also, I like to downshift when slowing down because race car! If I see a car behind coming up to me while downshifting, I'll actually touch the brakes just enough so the brake lights are on. That way the idiot doesn't slam into my rear because he couldn't judge correctly.

I'd have to agree with the majority of people's comments about the mirrors, BUT i use my mirrors in the work trucks to back up & to make sure i'm not hitting anyone or anything. I can understand adjusting those for highway use, but not for city use. Our mirrors are manually adjusted,, which take a few tries to get them adjusted correctly. My mother-in-laws CX9 has the BSM & it's wonderful, but i still do check by turning my head before i change lanes.

Thanks Lauri for the $5.99 tip. Using online check-in, i avoid the lines & there's a steady stream of people coming in.

I hate that. Sometimes ill lift my foot off of the brake if ive been stopped a while and the person behind will jump forward then slam on their brakes because my brake light went off...drives me nuts. At least wait until i start moving forward before you do!

Marlon, do you take 271 into beachwood? That s*** is scary during rush hour!

This. This is why I try not to be around ANYONE on the highway.

And as far as getting out of the way when someone is going to rear end you, I'm usually in the fast lane on 76 when traffic suddenly stops. USUALLY the people barreling down on me hit the breakdown lane, but there really isn't enough room for a full car width there due to the concrete barrier. If I'm getting hit, I'm getting hit on 76 because there's nowhere to go coming up to the central interchange (coincidentally where traffic STOPS)...

Did a tune up (plugs and wires) for the RX7. I hate doing a tune up on a warm motor, but I had no choice

because it's not SAFE?? you'll BOTH grow up, eventually LOL. it's one thing causing damage to yourself/your own car ... but when it gets out of hand to the point of hurting/killing other people? THAT's a whole different ball game. So sad for innocent people being in the wrong place at the wrong time. : (

Lauri... you know I hate crusing at 80 mph with all of you guys. I wasn't refering to myself. Hell, I'm the person who puts 20k miles on a set of tires that should only last me 8k.

I do kinda have to laugh at some of the comments about other cars on the road only because of where I'm currently sitting, and what I'm seeing. None of us would survive Beijing driving. It's nothing for someone to come to a complete stop on the highway to cross over 3 lanes to get to an exit that they knew for 2km was coming up on the right. 3 lane highway? Nope... lines means that's where the center of your car can be and not hit the cars in the actual lanes (in their minds). Last Monday on the way to golf, I counted 7 rows of cars on a 3 lane highway (as we were dead stopped due to accident involving a box truck, scooter, van, and a passenger car).

i'm going to be replacing my wheel bearings sometime soon- shops want like $80 to do both fronts, and harbor freight has a cute little 6 ton press on sale for $70. Did you guys think i could get away with using a 6-ton press for changing my bearings? What about a 6 tonne press? Tonne with 2 n's and an e.
Or do i absolutely have to use a 12 ton or more press... and have a shop do it 'cause i can't afford a 12 ton press?
...o.k. i can afford it, but i'd rather go the cheapest route
YA KNOW?

finished putting my p5 tower bar on my car tonight: Discovered i didn't have the solenoid/valve bracket, so i ended up sawing off the part of the old cruise control bracket that used to hold the solenoid and used that.
Pro tip: you can saw off the part of the old sedan cruise control bracket that used to hold your (some sort of) valve/solenoid and re-attach it in it's old spot when you've got the rest of the tower bar and stuff on.
...i wish i just bought the OEM p5 bracket...

Is there anybody in Columbus that's free to take my overweight a*^ somewhere, it should be around the 12 to 2 time area and I would only need you for like 30-45 mins. Depending on traffic. I could throw a couple bucks your way. Sorry for these short notices. Thanks. PM me if at all possible.

yea, I've experienced eastern european driving before - although it's all fun and games at first, eventually it gets annoying when you try to get somewhere and Everyone is driging like an a-hole.

ive been on one of the most dangerous roads in the world when i went to Bolivia... after having to drive around buses on the outside and looking down to several hundred foot drop offs, yeah... i mean its not the same as lots of crazy cars everywhere BUT it was to this day one of the scariest drives ive ever had

(and yes same stretch of road the boys at Top Gear had a special on)

Dealing with the north outerbelt every day in c-bus is not fun at all...anybody familiar with the 23/270/315 area knows my pain.

I'm thinking about getting a set of "rain" tires for the MSP that will also serve as a transition while I learn the car, anybody interested in a set of used Hoosier A6s? I have 2 sets you can choose from, one has 60% left and one has 90% left.

That's why I go the back way.
