What have you done to your Miata today?

It would seem so. There are quite a few people on Miata.net complaining the original battery dies quickly and needs to be replaced. I think part of the problem is people don't check the batt fluid and top up each year. Being a small battery doesn't help.
I'm still running the original battery.

I have a red top on mine, yes its heavier but I've never had an issue.
Hardtop and Replaced Mirror
My 1992 Miata had really dull paint on the mirrors for some reason, so I swapped the Drivers side from my 1991 to the 1992.
I also met someone for a Miata Hardtop on Craigslist. Turned out the latch that attaches to the frankenstein bolt was completely sheared off. So I offered $500, and then couldn't fit it in my wifes CR-V we had driven. Oh well. It seemed a little to beat up anyway.

Had to pull the steering column, clutch pedal box & the brake / throttle box to remove a 2lb mat of insulation... that was fun. Would have been worse if there was a dashboard, but still. The time & effort per lb lost is starting to ramp up pretty quickly lol

well, car's at the shop getting an alarm system installed, normally i'd do this myself, but no garage/tools are place to work right now. getting some tint done too, as my car is now in the sun all day...no garage

...I re-centered the steering. It was off by 60 degrees +1 spline. Damn it. I thought I'd gotten away with just being able to put the steering wheel 1 flat to the left (the quick release is a hex, turning the wheel by 1 flat = 60 degrees). It was off just enough with the wheels straight to bother me, even though I KNOW I'd never notice it on course, but I'm retarded so I took the whole hub apart and re-assembled it.

i'd never call you that! i'd do the same, can't stand it when the wheels not straight!
You drive your car on the street. The longest time I'd ever notice that it was off was between grid and the start line lol
But honestly, it'd bug me enough to mess with my head. Sad, ain't it?
Tonight's activities:
Replaced the thermostat gasket, again, after block-sanding both sides of the thermostat housing. Might be a little leak, somewhere else, urg. Glad I ordered 4 new thermostat gaskets.
Did a free-air calibration on the wide band oxygen sensor.
Re-set base timing... it had apparently slipped 6 degrees advanced... not sure if I totally spaced on setting it in the first place (unlikely) or my friend's skeevy timing gun borked out (considerably more likely). Anyway, runs way moar smooth and strong.
Added a 100kOhm 'threshold' potentiometer to the knocksense unit, readjusted everything to be happy, worked perfectly this time!
Did some VE Analyze Live auto-tuning with my friend driving, added a big of fuel almost everywhere, felt like it was making small improvements in smoothness and maybe a little in power. Several wastegate-pressure boost runs were quite strong with nary a hint of knock anywhere!
I found myself grabbing the o-s*** handle more than once, but everything felt solid: engine, suspension, brakes.

My plans for today...
- Fill with gas.
- Put on hard top and bolt down.
- Put on track wheels/tires.
- Load onto trailer.
- Load the back of the truck with all my tools, gear, and spares.
Today is going to go incredibly slow. I can't wait to get to Mid-Ohio tomorrow for an open lapping day.

I got up early and took the Miata in to work today, taking the really long and un-traveled way to get a little more tuning in. I tweaked my spark map to closely match the Flyin' Miata Link ECU map. I made small and reasonable changes, largely smoothing things over.
So I setup VE Analyze Live for another 'spirited' tuning drive :awe:

It's a program that automatically tunes the fuel table based on a target AFR table. As I drive around VE-AL looks at RPM, MAP, AFR, and a few other variables (the company doesn't actually say what they are, no doubt part of their secret sauce) including an AFR delay table and makes incremental adjustments to the fuel table to try and reach the AFR targets.
It works pretty well I think.
The mini-tables on the right-hand side show you where in the map you've been driving and what is being changed.
The bottom of the screen is a 'history plot' of RPM, MAP, EGOcorrection, and AFR. EGOcorrection, exhaust gas oxygen correction, is a feature that allows the MS to make small fueling adjustments on the fly to better match the target AFR table, it is disabled during tuning so VE-AL and the EGOcorrection algorithms don't chase each others' tails.
To round out my early morning drive I may or may not have bumped the rev limiter and may or may not have blown off an IC pipe

car will be left to it's own devices in a parking lot with about 500 tenants who may have invited people that might have thoughts about stealing things or the car. never had to be concerned about it before...always parked in my garage nice and safe. i also get a 20% break on my theft ins now!
