autocross newbie needs some help

When was this?
Where?

It was last season. Atlanta region. Sometime before July. I had a couple guys come up and warn me (at the AMP circuitcross event) that a Mazda 2 had gotten pretty high on 2 wheels earlier that season. Probably either Turner Field or AMS was where it happened. I never did meet the guy that did it, as I've always been the only 2 at the events I've been to so far.

They've got an event at Road Atlanta this season which I'll probably attend since its only 25 min or so from me (don't get excited, they'll be using the infield track).

Just because it isn't on the list doesn't mean that you can't get it on 2 wheels. My girlfriend has a 96 Civic hatch and all we had for mods was RE-01R tires on it and she got the inside tires 6" in the air with me in the car at a completely flat autocross. It can happen especially if under damped, which her car was.

To the original poster.

As for looking ahead better, try to take a run where you look 1 element ahead the whole time. Don't plan on being the fastest, but you will start to notice that if you are look 1 element ahead you will be a whole lot smoother. Look 2 cones ahead in a slalom. If the car is going into a turn, look for where you need to be on the exit. While starting to exit look at where you need to be for the next turn/element. This is IMO the hardest thing and I know even pro drivers have issues looking far enough ahead at times.

I forget who mentioned it earlier, but talking to yourself does help as well. I know on a few courses where I keep messing up a certain element, I start to talk to myself when I get close to it to try to remind myself not to screw it up again.

One of the guys who runs with us has been setting up the course for ATL for a while (Jay Parcon). He has mentioned to me that he has seen a 2 get on 2 wheels at ATL as well. Might have been you.

Off camber skid pad is the correct answer. And the car is safe in stock class where I do not think you can pull the fuse. Otherwise I would venture to guess at about a 22" CG height. For STF you should be OK once you lower the CG a few inches and reduce the roll rates.

Electronic traction and/or stability control systems may be turned off
or disabled, as long as this does not require connection to an external
system, removal of any part, or the substitution or modification
of any part.

You're right, if a fuse is considered a "part" then it cannot be removed. I was thinking you could just install a blown fuse, but thats against Stock rules as well.

And a club that sets up a skid pad on a off camber surface isn't a club that I would run with, IMO.

Jay is aweosme! Very fun to watch on the course (esp in Jim's S2k), and I usually enjoy his courses. I wasn't the one on 2 wheels, is was another guy from Atl region.
