A fun ad.
Exactly. All pictures or videos of CX5s on tracks were publicity stunts sponsored by Mazda's marketing department, like the Laguna Seca driving impression videos at launch time.

I would be crazy enough to take mine to a circuit if:
1. the track was empty like that
2. there was nobody to laugh at the guy in the suv on the track
3. the suspension was 3 inches lower and I had some nice grippy tires

They used to laugh at me in my Toyota Matrix at the track, but usually by the end of the first or second session I had a few "not bad" nods from other drivers. This car is bigger in every dimension, so although it would be fun/capable, it would still be slow.

Small world huh?
Don't miss my '03 XRS at all. It was a nice 1st 'new' car for me but Mazdas drive SO much better.

Here's someone that isn't Mazda taking it on a track:

http://youtu.be/xjnz--YfdY0

Fast forward to 3:30 to get to the actual driving. The guy talks about how it has "lots of body roll" and "Little ultimate grip" while he proceeds to catch to to the 370Z and the Jaguar XKR-S on the track. Huh??? Granted watching a video from the inside of the car isn't the best place to determine grip and body roll, but I thought that it handled really well from what I could see. I have to ask what the guy was comparing it to when he said that he "expected that it would be better from the reviews".

Looks like the Touring or Sport was the model he was driving which has the 17" wheels.
Not sure if a GT with lower profile (55 vs 65) woulda handled better.

I thought that was you! Good to see another former MO.com member over here (plus ReggaeTrix). I agree the CX5 is infinitely better. I think we're the only people that will not find this car lacking in grunt since we're coming from 1ZZ and 2ZZ cars which had no torque at all. I still would have preferred the Mazda6 wagon, but this will do nicely for now.

Looks like 19's.

I dare to say that the 2.5L owners are satisfied with their selection.

ReggaeTrix is on here too? Lol. Good times, MO.com, taught me a lot about cars.

I don't find the CX-5 lacking in grunt at all and I'm coming from a 2010 F-150 with a V-8. The fact is, the CX-5 and it's 6 gears (manual or auto) makes great use of the rev band. The only torque that matters is the torque applied by the wheels to the pavement - that's what propels the car forward. And it matters little whether that is achieved with a larger displacement, slower turning mill or one designed to spin up fast when you need some get up and go. Of course, the method employed to achieve this does matter in terms of how much your monthly fuel bill is.

Seats look cloth & rear windows are not tinted. Looks like a Sport model to me & descripton on YouTube says manual transition, only available in Sport.

Maybe the description is wrong - I didn't see the driver shifting a stick?

Seat material and rear window tint (since dark rear tint doesn't come with any version of CX-5 in Austrailia) doesn't translate to 17's necessarily in Austrailian market. Mazda CX-5 configs are different than US market.

Regardless, look at the wheel size and design, they are obviously 19's.

This is a commercial for Mazda. Obviously they are going to make it look good...
