CX-5 Heated Seats...Kind of weak?

I have a 2013 GT and those seats are WAY too hot. I've taken multiple trips snowboarding in the northeast this year and even then (in the single digits outside) I only used the lowest setting for a couple minutes. the high setting actually hurts to me. That said, my wife will set it on high and cruise like that, so....personal tolerance I suppose.

In the end I'd rather have them a little to warm than too cold, that's weak sauce.

23*F today leaving home. I began developing severe ass sweat through jeans within 15 minutes on high.

I'll chime in.
Just got done with a most unpleasant experience at the dealership we got our car from.
We live in Colorado. Heated seats are nice to have here. Long story short, our '14 seats hardly heat at all. So much so it's a joke. I have taken it back to them twice, raised holy hell & have only owned the car for two weeks.
Here is the bs story we got. They told my wife (who happens to be a lawyer) and I that according to Mazda your heat has to be cranked up to 90 in order to have them "kick on" and that they make them so weak now because of people getting burned. Also told us that the passenger side is connected to the same weight sensor that the airbag is, so someone must be occupying the seat in order for them to activate. I called BS and demanded I sit in another brand new CX-5 so I could see how it worked. Sure enough, same thing. I am blown away by this. Even the Customer Service Manager admited that it's a joke, but wouldn't/couldn't do anything about it. So, if you are in the market for a '14 CX-5, and you're thinking about upgrading to the GT package because of the "heated seats" and that's the thing you're really after, don't do it. NOT worth it. Also, when we were told about the 90 degree bs and the activation via passenger occupancy, funny how they couldn't show us in any book or manual where is specified that pretinent information.
I guess my advice would be if you are having seat heater issues, call and note them with your dealer and who knows if they get enough negative feedback, perhaps they'll work on a fix. Right now I feel like I have purdy lower console lights that I get to toggle from 1 to 3. Schweeet.

I have a '14 GT, and my seat heaters work regardless of someone being in the passenger seat or not. I never have the heat set above 80 degrees. The outdoor temp when I have used them hasn't been lower than 35F or so. I can feel the heat in a couple minutes after turning them on, and I usually leave it on the middle level when driving in to work. My wife likes hers at the full heat setting. They are not searing, but definitely heat the seats in a pleasant way.

that sounds like made up excuses from the service guys as to why they aren't turning on, but I haven't tried a 2014. But the fear of lawsuits from burns is real:
Seat heater burns prompt auto industry action

I think I mentioned before but mine seem to heat up the fastest on 3 but if I leave it on 2 it stays at a more steady warmth. Whereas with it set on 3 I can feel them turn off and on, on 2 it stays on much more evenly.

Anyone who is currious about this or don't believe me call Mazda of Lakewood - (877) 595-3671 & talk to the Customer Service Manager Scott and he will tell you that they are a (and I quote) "joke". I kid you not. Still the irony to me is that they are doing nothing for us.
I'm still shoveling out of all the bs I was given.

Has anyone installed aftermarket (ebay) seat warmers? I am considering it. I saw aftermarket seat warmers installed in a 2013 CX5 at Polor Chevy/Mazda in White Bear Lake, MN and the on/off switches were located on the center console on top, right infront of the cubby door. They looked good there.

I've seen those melt seats and harnesses. Sorry, but I wouldn't want to risk setting my ass on fire (literally) with aftermarket seat warmers from eBay.

^ Agreed, even if my ass survived, I don't need a warranty-voiding electrical problem.

The seats in my 2014 Grand Touring don't get very warm at all. I can sorta tell they're on, but only when I think about it, even when set on 3.

First world problems:

"My heated seats aren't 'warm' enough"

(rofl2)(rofl2)

Well, you don't need a seat heater when you are sharing warmth.

Have to say I am loving our seats...with the temps in .30's I don't even need a coat with the setting on high....toasty :)

+1. It has been below freezing the past month and the seats work just fine in any given setting for me. This is coming from someone that has owned several cars with heated seats. Like I said, not scorching hot like an Audi or Lexus, but the heated seats in the CX are up to task.

I tried out the seat warmers on my GT today and even after a few minutes on the 3 level they only felt mildly warm. Good news is I live in FL and it was over 80 today, so I'll never have a need for them :D

I live in Wisconsin. Have never had heated seats or ever felt the need for them.
