02 P5
I know its probably been discussed plenty of times before, but i have access to get these at a great deal. My question is I have been looking up info on these for several days and most of the info sources arent good anymore (links are dead.) Im trying to find out if i do calipers, rotors, and pads, on a p5 with abs am I going to have issues?

The info I have found is inconclusive because the threads are like 6 years old and in forum archives. Any bit helps, thanks!

Are you doing front only? They should clear the p5 rims no problem. I'm sure I've seen it done before. You need the calipers w/ brackets, rotors and get pads while you're at it. Also, fyi front MSP brakes are simply late model 626 V6 brakes painted silver. If you need any parts you will have more options and cheaper prices if you look for 626 hardware.

i've got the brakes from a 2007 mazda6 (11.8 inch front rotors and massive calipers) on my car with the stock 16's- i believe my wheels are the same as the ones you get on the 2002 p5 and they fit, so you should have no problem with the MSP set up.... or the 626 (from a v6 equipped car) brakes.

I should have been more specific, I want to make sure i wont have any mechanical issues such as ABS warning lights or bias problems. I dont believe ill have any wheel issues as im on 17" with +45 offset.

I was able to get Fronts and rears (pads, calipers, and rotors) for roughly $400.

You won't have any issues with abs. Abs doesn't monitor brake hardware it monitors when the tires lock up via a speed sensor.

Pretty sure the msp also uses the same abs system as a regular protege

I stand corrected :)

I have 04 6wgn brakes on the front and rear of my P5. No issues, except the lack of a parking brake. You could look around for a 6 that is being parted out and buy all the parts you need. I found my set on craigslist ($130). Not only will you get larger components you will get rid of the problematic Protege calipers.

I'm looking to do this in the spring for my car as well. Which year of the mazda 6 do I need? And the front and rear calipers just bolt up to the protege 5 with no issues/modding etc?

Rear calipers take some modification for the ebrake to work. I think msp rear brakes are the same size as the Mazda 6 rear brakes. I'm going with Mazda 6 front msp rear. Unless I find a good deal on some ms6 brakes

any specific year?

I don't think you have to worry about regular 6 brakes. MS6 brakes however you need to be carefull as the diameter warrants a change to 18" wheels. Also the calipers mount on the opposite side with the bleeder screw pointed down, making it an absolute pain to bleed. If you decide to do this be sure to get the caliper mount brackets, and rotors.

I love my brake set-up! I still need to find an e-brake solution though.

MSP rear brakes use the same size rear rotor as the Mazda6. I am currently running 06 Mazda6 front calipers, 06 Mazda6 front and rear rotors, and rear RX-7 pads. I went with the stoptech slotted rotors and ceramic pads, it is an amazing setup! I also swapped in braided stainless steel brake lines for the Protege front and rear, and ATE Superblue fluid all at the same time. I got all of my new parts from ProPart USA and they were awesome to deal with. The have good prices and give a discount to forum members. Call them and they can put a great kit together for you, they can even get you remanufactured Mazda6 calipers and brackets!

what was your final cost? I've wanted to do something like that. Just haven't looked into yet
